Roy Jones Jr. thinks boxing champ Terence Crawford should either fight Ilia Topuria or retire.

Crawford reached the peak of his stardom last month by beating the sport’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, via unanimous decision on Netflix. Jones believes Crawford should learn a lesson from his career and hang up his gloves now. Jones cited his trilogy loss against Antonio Tarver as a prime example of this logic. While Jones earned a controversial split decision against Tarver in their first meeting, he was brutally knocked out in the rematch and dropped a decision in the rubber match. Jones suggests that, unlike himself, Crawford should retire instead of looking for a rematch against Alvarez. If not, Jones believes fighting Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Topuria is the next best thing for “Bud.”

Jones Jr.: Retirement the Best Thing for Crawford

“I think Crawford will retire. If he retires next, it’d be the best thing,” Jones Jr. told TitanPlay. “Had I retired after I beat Antonio Tarver the first time, we wouldn’t be having conversations about the greatest of all time. And we still shouldn’t, because facts are facts. But if Crawford does anything more, he should fight Ilia Topuria. He deserves the reward at this time. Look how long he waited before he got the attention he has now. He deserves one more of those. If anything, that’s what he should do.”

sounds like something you would say sitting in a dorm room surrounded by blacklight posters the first time you take mushrooms

I see his point. Throw in a couple freak show fights against Pacquiao and Mayweather and he’s set for the rest of his life.

I am 100% in favour of this provided it is a straight up boxing match. I'm sure Big Frank thought it was going to be easy too. This won't be a work like Conor and Floyd. Crawford will box the fucking shit out of him.

ilia is no PPV champ

"He deserves the reward at this time. Look how long he waited before he got the attention he has now."

Bud was never after "attention." He was after respect. And now he has it. Fighting Topuria might garner attention, but it wouldn't increase his respect.

And Roy's premise is flawed. Not only is Topuria not a Conor-level star, all indications suggest that Topuria isn't even a draw. In other words, there's no guarantee that it would be a "money fight."

Man, RJJ is just going rapid-fire with these big brain takes of his. Can't wait to see the next one

He’s not wrong at all. I don’t always agree with Roy’s takes but he’s right on this one.

Yes the Spanish/Georgian/German manlet is the final infinity stone needed for TC's gauntlet.

He should fight some midget that no one outside of MMA fans has ever heard of? Good call, Roid.
