Rountree's lack of coverage is appalling

"lack of coverage is APPALLING!!" :D

I like the guy but he just beat Anthony Smith who had already lost 2 of his last 3 fights coming in. How much acclaim is he supposed to get for that win?

He definitely should get a big fight next though. Someone like Jan Blachowicz or Nikita Krylov makes sense.

Rountree had a rather patchy UFC record before these last couple of years. More losses than wins. It's hard to shift the fan's perception after that, even if Khalil did reinvent himself and become Bangkok Ready.

And as for me personally, I don't think I'll ever forget this moment:

Some of the best traditional Muay Thai in the game.

WAR ROUNTREE!!!

:meow:

The difference is romero was truly elite and there was a lot going on in his head when he would wait to explode, while khalil throws 3 leg kicks against a guy who can’t defend them and then asks for a title shot

Rountree threw primarily head shots against Smith

Khalil vs the winner of Cerrone/Twisted Steel for the intercontinental belt at Summer Slam!

If you think adesanya did more than yoel then fair enough, I completely disagree but fair enough. If you think yoel lost cause he should have taken the belt then I can’t agree, that’s now how it works. you say yoel did almost nothing so he didn’t deserve to win the belt, but if adesanya only did a tad bit more then why does he deserve to keep it?

First of all, Id like to thank you for your respectfulness and not resulting to insults just because I have a different opinion than you.
Ok, so... First I want to answer your question. Izzy deserves to keep his belt because Romero didnt beat him. Even if you considered that fight a draw from lack of activity, Izzy would keep his belt. But here is the breakdown for Izzy/Romero

Izzy threw 132 total strikes Romero threw 89
So, already we have Izzy being a more active fighter.

Izzy landed 48 Romero landed 40
Not a huge difference but it does show that Romero was slightly out struck.

Significant strikes was the same as landed.

Izzy landed 14 head shots Romero landed 20

Again, not a big difference but does show Romero landed more to the head.

Izzy landed 9 to the body Romero landed 7

Izzy landed 25 to the legs Romero landed 13

That shows Izzy was trying to eat up Romeros legs while Romero was looking to explode something to the head. Basically the story of the fight.

Romero had 3 takedown attempts and failed on all 3.

Basically it was a shit fight that neither guy wanted to take very many chances. Romero landed the better shots to the head, but thats not saying much. One of those was a left overhand that was a good shot. Might have even been the best strike of the fight. But I am pretty sure Romero won that round. And its judged round by round. So while that might have been the best shot of the fight. It wasnt a knock down and was a rare breed in that fight. He won the round for it. But with the rule set the way it is, you cant give him the whole 5 round fight because he landed 1 decent left hand. Especially when it didnt do much or lead to anything. He basically got out pointed. Which is how alot of Romero fights go until he KOs them. Chris Weidman was winning until he got his face rearranged. Izzy just never gave him that moment and Romero wasnt willing to make it happen.

If we can both agree that yoel clearly won 1 and 2, izzy clearly won 3 and 4, and that 5 is close then we can have a discussion on that

i know what the official numbers say but like you said it’s round by round, officially in the 5th round yoel outstruck him 14 to 12, personally I didn’t see it that way when I rewatched and counted myself, it was ages ago but I think I had it like 12 to 7 for yoel or something similar to that. Ignoring joes biased commentary and him going “ooooo that leg kick really hurt him!” Makes the strikes adesanya is landing look a lot weaker than the commentary was trying to make out , and again both officially and my unofficial count, Romero outlanded him in that 5th round, so he should have won the decision.

and yes, too often debates turn into insults, I argued about jones with someone before and it ended up with him saying “I bet you wouldn’t call him out to his face” and “go call him a bitch and see what happens” it was just sad

No one thinks he even beat Jacoby, the media scores the fan scores the general sentiment and most importantly watching the fight doesn’t point to a khalil win
You're right actually -- I vaguely remember the fight, but I'm pretty sure I recall thinking it was a bad decision and a pretty lackluster fight. I am getting old lol That's probably why not much was made of it

Yeah, it makes everything pointless really. I once gave an "out of the box" opinion about PEDs one time. Respectfully. I broke down all his dramatic points, one by one. Gave my rebuttal to each point. And he came back with an insane post of insults and insanity. Never spoke on any of the points that were being discussed. Basically left the topic to go into a vile fit of rage.

As for the fight, I need to go back and watch it again. But I think your right about the rounds 1-2 Romero and 3-4 Izzy. But Im not sure.

I’m pretty passionate about this fight as an MMA fan cause yoel is my favourite fighter of all time, its sad cause new fans in 10 years won’t know his real record, they’ll take one look and think “he had some good wins but was never champ material” or something stupid like that, the guy was a monster but was so smart as well, like in the whittaker rematch I see some people say things like “ rob would have destroyed him if he didn’t break his hand” without realising that he broke his hand cause of yoels guard, trying to get rob to punch him in the elbow

It’s probably because he finds a way to lose to guys like Ion Cutelaba, and Marćin Prachnio.

Well in his opinion yes but I don’t even believe that regardless
..Izzy outlanded him in 3 out of 5 rounds...look it up
That was enough to win this disaster of a fight...

This fight was right up there with
Severn x Kimo and Severn x Ken 2...and it should not ever be talked about again...😅

..bro...i am not here to shit on someone...and i am not a Izzy fan...but he won that "fight".

A challenger can not be awarded with a win for doing less than the champion himself...

...and this thread is about Roundtree and not the Izzy Yoel borefest

One of the rounds he outlanded yoel, yoel almost dropped him with an overhand, and two of the judges gave him that round

Dude got obliterated by Walker of all people.

That being said Khalil is super fun to watch and is a savage.

I think the problem was that he went kinda cold when they (probably) were ready to put some noise behind him...

The Saki KO was big time

Then he faces Walker...a guy they were making noise for at the time...and gets KOed

Beats the crap out of Eryk

And puts up 2 Ls in a row...1 in Copenhagen against Ion by KO.

And 1 against a guy on a 0-3 streak...fuck!

But now...

5-0
4 finishes
3 POTN bonuses

LHW needs more guys in the picture..not just Alex, Jiri, Hill and...Ankalaev if he wins.

If they dont promote more guys...the division will be dull again at the end of the year

I hope someone calls out Strickland for this now that he's also a "snowflake".
