Anyone else read Jack Slack's article raving about Rothwell's window? He holds out his arms to defend so that it seems like opponents are hitting him but it's rare and never flush.

So when he went to his corner he said "He's hitting me" after the 2nd round. JDS was too crisp and fast. After that he looked scared and lost. I always feel bad for JDS's opponents when he fights well.

Rothwell protected his head pretty well in this fight tbf, he's gotten very good at awkwardly swaying using his arms and shoulders to catch blows. Junior opened up the head with body shots, as few MMA fighters can.

JDS is one of the best in the UFC when it comes to working the body.

I know, i did boxing and never touched a rapier in my life

But so does fencing with a rapier
There was fuckton of schools and styles, specially when it was awesome in 1600 or so

Still, there was a set of general things that stayed in a rapier duel: the range, the nature of the weapon, the speed, the kind of strikes and so on

With boxing goes similar, as much boxing can offer variety, you can count the opponent going full Toquinho on your leg at least as highly unprobable

Then boom: MMA, axes, tiny gloves, spears, BJJ, katanas, low kicks, cages, laser swords, takedowns and shit

You add new elements, you add variables

Take a dude with an axe and one with a rapier and my money is on the rapier dude

But his style will change, you can't ask him to apply beautiful academic fencing when the other dude is a madman that's swinging that fucking axe with tiny mma gloves

Then again, HW and tree branches
