Anyone else read Jack Slack's article raving about Rothwell's window? He holds out his arms to defend so that it seems like opponents are hitting him but it's rare and never flush.

So when he went to his corner he said "He's hitting me" after the 2nd round. JDS was too crisp and fast. After that he looked scared and lost. I always feel bad for JDS's opponents when he fights well.

Might as well include the article: http://fightland.vice.com/blog/ben-rothwell-birth-of-a-contender

I feel worse for JDS when he doesn't.

But good observation, I didn't notice what Ben said in the corner. Tells the story I guess.

Will be interesting to hear what Ben has to say now... He was full of that WWE crap before...

im sure jack will have something ready - hes been wrong a lot, as a regularity, hes prob really good at covering at this point

He's hitting me lol. He might as well said he's fighting back. More like he's doing all the fighting. I felt bad for Ben after the fight though.

JDS has such solid fundamentals when it comes to boxing, people underestimate technical striking when it comes to MMA these days, hardly anybody seems to actually possess it.

I always thought the weird arm movements were to try and lure opponents in, so they'd stand and bang with him. Getting hit wasn't actually too much of a problem during the fight, the main problem was he barely hit JDS back.

I've wanted to see jds do those fast in and out body shots for years

Barnett was tagging him until he decided to clinch and then he got subbed. Same thing with the mitrione fight. Rothweell can only win brawls, his stand up is horrible and he's super slow. Rothwell could be champ if they started a super hw division

What ? Did you read the article? Seems like you just hated on him as a first reaction

This is true in some way, but is also true that MMA make orthodox technical striking harder

Boxing is like fencing and start from the premise that the other dude will have a similar rapier and swing it in similar style

MMA is like have a rapier in a place where peoples use swords, axes, spears, katanas, hammers and chainsaws.
And often the other dude not only use a different style but will trade a rapier in the belly with an axe in your skull.

Wich does'nt make the rapier less deadly, but definitely the pure fencing harder to apply

Said that yes, sometimes HW is about gorillas clubbing the shit out of each other with tree branches

He realized he was getting tagged, yet he made absolutely no changes to his game plan?!

foreman-style intercepting hands work best when you have firewood arms like foreman. for others, maybe not such a great idea.

Rothwell protected his head pretty well in this fight tbf, he's gotten very good at awkwardly swaying using his arms and shoulders to catch blows. Junior opened up the head with body shots, as few MMA fighters can.

I rewatched it. It was actually after Round 1. Rothwell says "He's hitting" and his coach goes "He's hitting, he's hitting, I know".

one of the few fighters I've seen use a jab correctly. I would have liked to see him throw hooks to the body. They were there to be capitalized on from the 3rd round on but I understand why he chose to just get out of there instead.
