For whatever reason the UFC/Dana White took a major liking to her and decided to make her a star. She was literally given a UFC title at a press conference, a weight class which was perfect for her, and put up against other fighters who quite honestly weren't that good and were perfect match ups for her. She was not only protected from Cyborg, but the UFC and Dana White launched a smear campaign against her stopping to the level of making/condoning comments about her gender and looks.
From there the UFC put a PR campaign behind her which basically made her into a mythical figure. Unfortunately, since so many people are easily swayed and duped into believing anything, perception became reality. They had people believing she could beat men. In the process Rousey herself believed the hype. Her behavior became indicative of someone who was given free reign to do whatever she wanted and suffer no consequences. She was constantly called a role model for all young women, and yet her behavior was often despicable. When she beat Meisha Tate and Tate stood right up and put her hand towards her to congratulate her, and Ronda snubbed her every excuse in the book was made for her. When her pre and post fight behavior towards her opponents went beyond trash talk and became outright elitist, it was ignored.
Also, to those who say there would be no women's MMA without her, that couldn't be further from the truth. Her only claim to that is the fact that Dana White fell in love with her and decided to hand over the world to her. Ronda Rousey did everything she did for Ronda Rousey. Women's MMA is alive and well because of women like Gina Carano, Cyborg, Meisha Tate, Marloes Coenen, etc.
I don't enjoy seeing people fall and have a swift and decisive fall from grace. That being said, when someone shits on everyone else in their path to to the top, and honestly believes they are better than everyone else (not as a fighter, but simply a superior human being), their fall from grace is getting what they deserve.
The fact of the matter is, Ronda Rousey was good, but she was never that good. Women's MMA evolved at an alarming rate, and while she was busy believing her own hype other women came up and got better. She fought two women who had decent striking rather than just coming forward and flailing their arms, and she was dominated. If Ronday Rousey came out today and said she made a lot of mistakes, showed even a small level of humility, and decided to actually work hard to improve her fighting skills and ability to be even a decent human being, I would be the first to root for her to come back. However, considering everything we saw from her fighting skills on Friday night and her behavior leading up to the fight it's obvious she is still mired in her own hype and false world. As long as that continues she will never be a champion again, and quite honestly, I believe she will continue to be a bitter, miserable, and lonely person. Karma is a bitch, just ask Ronda Rousey.
