George Foreman vs Ron Lyle (Highlights)

It looks like the stance of Ron Lyle that looks wider than shoulder with allows him to throw really big punches also Jack Demspey used a wide stance.

also check the end out (brutal finish):

Ike Williams vs Beau Jack Rare version II TKO

Can somebody explain how the wider stance can contribute to more punching power?(I always thought a stance wider than shoulder-with decreases power...)

Of course this wide stance cause dissavantages when it comes to defense and mobility, however I just want to know the relationship between a wide stance and punching power

ps: is it just me or does george foreman also have a bxoing stanc ethat is more than shoulder wide

why you need explanations? just try and experience for yourself

"why you need explanations? just try and experience for yourself!"

Good point, I also find myself more powerful in a wide stance and easier to use my hips but I am biased and I would like to know a rational explanation

So it's transfer of energy. My Russian friend can explain it better then me;

So if you increase the height of the drop the small ball will have more energy and go higher.

Let the soccer ball represent you body and the baseball your fist.

Wide stance let's you increase the distance your body travels and therefore creates more energy for your fist.

@ Perfect form thank you for the good explanation at the same time I wonder, does a wider stance not sacrifice leverage as a more shoulder wide stance creates a better alignment between : ankle-knee-hip or am I mistaken?

I'm trying to understand what you mean. This alignment thing, tell me more.

Wide stances give more momentum for less leverage and balance. Note I didn't say they give more power, because they don't. They make it easier to lunge into your shots, but you'll hit harder if you know how to create the same momentum without sacrificing balance, and you'll be more defensively responsible.

Pony stances have structure along basically one axis: the direction your feet are bladed. You can put most of your chain into an attack only as long as its going strait ahead with the lead. So less like swinging an ax and more like thrusting a rapier. You trade versatility for more range, but range matters a lot, so its a trade-off that can pay in several circumstances.

Taking wonderboy as an example here, when his right leg leads, he looks for the side kick, when his left leg leads, he's looking to throw hands with a lunging jab. He actually followed that same pattern nearly every single time in the MacDonald fight, which makes me wonder why Rory didn't notice, or did but couldnt figure out how to take advantage of that somehow anyways.

@ a guy isn´t it the total opposite?

I wider stance gives more room to rotate on the hips. An extremely narrow stance makes it so you can't rotate at the hips. The same is true if you stand in a split, no rotation. Finding a good medium is probably best. I would say that standing shoulder width is a bad description for width.
