Romero vs. Randleman

I honestly don't know if the Earth could sustain such a collision...

Here's Rogan's cage-side view.

Randleman would have been an animal with the right gym at the right weight class. Too bad we'll never know for sure.

Both on the juice? Romero. Both off the juice? Romero. Only Randleman on the juice? Randleman. Only Romero on the juice? Romero.

Basically, Romero with 75% chance of winning.

Interesting matchup.

Not really interested in wrestling/grappling department - Kevin WILL take Romero down, and Romero WILL get up. Despite bring a great wrestler, Randleman was never a grappler in any way. He never knew what to do next.

Standup- wise - Romero is much more skilled: he practices much more, and Randleman used sloppy boxing.
But Romero is much smaller....or not? Will Randleman be a decent MW today?

I predict Romero catching Randleman with something in the 3rd, in his brutal fashion

Big factor is where the fight happens...

Randleman's boxing was always a bit weird in that he could throw some very nice punchs but also look very flaky at other points.

can watch that gif all day, we need to get eddie bravo figure out if this is real or fake footage

rip the monster

LOL Big John's face is funny as he stares at Randleman in that gif. Randleman looks like he's jumping off a small trampoline.

This would be a crazy, like 2 human jumping beans. Crazy athletic, powerful as hell, crushers. There would be nothing but shrapnel left on the cage floor. Damage Inc.

i think romero got this. They both have elite wrestling but Romero has much better striking. Rampage beat Randleman with a similar type of skillset. I think prime Rampage (the one that fought chuck liddell in Pride) vs prime Romero would be a better match up.

Romero is over rated on here, the rampage you are talking about would have absolutely destroyed Yoel. Whittaker is a small MW and he boxed Yoel up and stopped his takedowns with one leg, imagine what a big lhw like rampage with great boxing and wrestling as well as KO power in every punch would have done to Romero.

Random, I know. But this seems like such an interesting fight on paper. Both guys were incredibly explosive athletes, great wrestlers, and could KO anyone with their explosive power.

Romero
Advantages:
-Taller at 5'11
-Much more accomplish wrestler
-Better striker. Master of flying knees
- More unpredictable

Disadvantages:
-Smaller weight wise

Randleman
Advantages:
- More power (Rampage said Randleman hit him the hardest, I believe)
- Bigger at 220lbs
- Possibly stronger. Outwrestled HWs, while Romero had trouble with a big LHW in Cavalcante
- Crazier athletic feats (Randleplex)

Disadvantages:
- Lack of sub defense
- Lacks striking skill

I have Romero via GnP or even sub. But it'd be interesting to see him against someone who's his athletic equal or even superior.

Randleman was a good wrestler. Yoel is a GREAT wrestler.

Yoel would definitely beat him.

Randleplexes Romero through the canvas for KO.

Yoel would absolutely destroy him and it wouldn't even be close

WTF, I'll take Randleman via being a bigger freak than Yoel.

Bethe Correia-esque leap and athleticism!

Randleman was the original athletic and explosive MMA-fighter! (eclipsing the likes of Maurice Smith, Patrick Smith and One hand Jimmerson)

What a legend!

Ahh, hilarious. I actually thought of her when I posted that gif. And yes, Randleman was extremely athletic and explosive. He wasn't the best MMA fighter of all time but his explosive power was scary. His ground and pound on Cro Cop was vicious, powerful, and lightning fast.

Randleman was a good wrestler. Yoel is a GREAT wrestler.

Yoel would definitely beat him.

Yoel is a bit more refined technically I'd agree although less so than some are claiming IMHO, that said Randleman in his prime years is also significant larger/more powerful.

If today were Kevin would probably not have been roided up and fought at 205 at the absolute max. Perhaps even 185.
