ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (First Reactions)

I actually hope Hayden Christensen plays Vader. Give him another crack at it under a new director.

I just want the palate completely cleansed from the prequels in every way. I don't even want the Jimmy Smits cameo. We need to just pretend none of that shit ever happened.

They need to rewrite and remake the prequels under the new ownership.

Trying not to get too excited but I feel it could be the best of all the Star Wars films. I'm hoping at least easily the best behind IV and V.

Sorry, didn't mean to destroy your fantasy of a man taking a bath. lol

Interior, Vader's private chambers.

Close up shot of large metal bath, filled with blood. Several droids stand around it. We see the top of Vader's head, then his face as he slowly lifts himself out of the blood bath with the Force. The camera rotates, showing Vader's torso and limb stumps from behind. The droids move in, cleaning the blood from Vader as he levitates. We get a close up of Vader's eyes, showing the guilt and rage he always feels. The only sound is Vader's breathing.

The droids bring Vader his armour, mask and helmet. Once he is fully clothed, Vader turns to his left. The camera follows him, and reveals several dead Rebels. All have had their throats cut with a Lightsaber.

Vader, "Dispose of this trash."

Droids, "Yes, sir."

Empire March, Vader leaves the room, fade to black.

It will never happen, of course. It's way too dark. But anyone who thinks a scene like that wouldn't be cool as fuck should have their Man Card revoked.;)

Hard to gauge anything meaningful from the trailer, but the script sounds a little rough. However I have more faith in this actress and I think she can carry it.

The visuals are incredible, it's an automatic win when you show the OT Empire but it really looks great.

Tone looks good for the trailer. I'm saying female lead dies in this.

I hope Disney redeems itself from the shit show Force Awakens

In this movie, it looks like rebels are just starting to defect from the empire, probably taking a lot of supplies with them. I'm willing to believe that by the time we get to ESB, the rebellion has exhausted a lot of those early-gained resources.

I agree it's kind of hand wavy but not entirely out of bounds imo.

Werent the rebels on the run and hiding in ESB?

They probably didnt had the Imperial war machine to replace all the guns and vehicles they lose or move all the equipment as they were running from one place to another. Then again I know nohing about the EU, I dont really know who was supplying the X-wings to begin with, maybe they did had the backing to replace all the weapons.

I mentioned this in the MMN thread, but it bears repeating.

If this movie winds up sucking, then the guys who put these trailers together deserve Academy Awards.
I am so amped for this movie (please don't suck).

Looks better than Episode 7. Director putting a lot of emphasis on the ships and vehicles which is one of the reasons I got into Star Wars.

I wonder if the injuries Kylo Ren suffered during his ass-kicking from Rey, plus getting hit by Chewie's crossbow, will result in him becoming a cyborg like his grandfather?

That could make him a more formidable opponent for Rey. And they need to do something to up the danger level after she besmirched him in the first fight. It also makes him more like his grandfather, strengthening his connection to the Dark Side.

Can you please go work for Disney, this needs to come to fruition

I don't think he'll be as robotic as Vader, but definitely moving down that path. It's a cool parallel.

I also don't feel nearly as worked up as a lot of people (not saying you) that he lost to Rey. He was toying with Finn until he got a lucky shot and then immediately crushed him. He was also toying with Rey (his arrogance seems to be his biggest flaw) until she tapped into mega force 5000 somehow.

All while he was bleeding out from the crossbow shot and the novelization (sorry, dork alert) indicates he was actually decreased in power after killing Han rather than becoming more powerful.

Sorry for the rant. Basically I'm excited for all things Star Wars at this point after being so down for so long.

Why is that? To suggest he's not truly evil, but rather a good, but misguided person?

I had no problem with his fight with Finn. As you said, he besmirched him. I would have had no problem with Rey using the Force to hurt Ren enough to allow her to escape. The problem is she absolutely smashed him. Even allowing for the extent of his injuries, this means I struggle to see him as a credible Big Bad. Yes, he was wounded. Yes, he still needs to complete his training under Snoke. But the next time he and Rey throw hands, she will be much more skilled and powerful in the Force, having gone through Jedi Camp under Luke himself.

That's one reason I hope they go the cyborg route, making him physically stronger, while Snoke finishes his Dark Side training.

I want to see Rey get her ass handed to her in the rematch by Kylo 2.0, thus setting up a deciding fight in the third movie. Ridley is a fine actress. But at this point, Rey is too overpowered to build a convincing sense of threat.

Oh, and for the love of the Force - no more fucking Death Stars! It's the Star Wars equivalent of invading Russia in the winter. It never works.

He's certainly not, "good". He's done far too much damage. I think that, like his grandfather, he carries the potential to redeem his terrible crimes. He knows this, and thus struggles to fully commit himself to the Dark Side.

Yeah I mean Rey did better against Ren than Luke did against Vader in ESB, and Luke had the benefit of actual training. Had Luke fought Vader in ANH right after Obi-Wan died he would have gotten cut down just as quickly.

I never did like the concept of Starkiller Base.

Convert a planet into a weapon is one thing. Giving it the ability to hit multiple targets at once, I just don't get that. Sure it's an advantage over the last two Death Stars but planets are spread out so far across the galaxy, what's the difference vs. using hyperdrive and firing the laser at a single target before moving on to the next?

Also, needing to suck in the energy of the system's sun to charge the weapon seems like it would take longer between blasts. How many times did the Death Star II fire its laser over Endor? At least twice that we know of, and within the space of minutes. And there's no indication they were lower-power blasts since they were only targeting capital ships.

Agreed. I liked TFA, but the whole Star Killer thing was a major plot hole. Of course you have to suspend disbelief, but the dumber the mistake, the harder it is to ignore it. Star Killer Base was the worst thing about the movie.

I'm guessing all but 1 of the protagonists die. It'll give even more meaning to the sacrifices made to set up A New Hope.

BBC just announced that Kenny Baker, who played R2D2, died today.:(

RIP.

There is no emotion, there is peace
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge
There is no passion, there is serenity
There is no chaos, there is harmony
There is no death, there is the Force
