Pico is proof that fighters are born not made

Honestly ji slap dangal should be prerequisite for MMA 🩴💥 If you cannot endure strong thappad, then you have no business facing killer-type individuals👍🏾Much safer for finding one's limitation.

I believe Waheguru gave Pico weak chin so he may focus on mind endeavors, not physical. If I am his father maybe suggest engineer or doctor better career for him haanji. 🧑🏻‍🏭🧑🏻‍⚕️

Pico gets a pass. He's a fighter with a nasty left. Still look forward to his next. Kinda like Manhoef, brings the fury but not so good at taking it.

Pico just doesn't have a chin whatsoever. It doesn't matter how skilled you are if you can't take a shot.

Leon Edwards has a terrible chin and he won the title. Same with Cody Garbrandt. You just have to have good fight iq to work around it.

Ye, but it kind of feels like every fight you go into is sort of 50/50. Hard to have any sort of dominant reign at the top.

His defense is kind of poor to be fair to his chin.

That's 3 times now that he's been brutally KOed and he hasn't even hit 30.

It really is shocking to see how his career has panned out. Like OP said, Pico had the pedigree to be the next greatest thing. Dude was winning international titles for wrestling and pankration...and he was a golden gloves champ, too.

Maybe mma just isn't for him.

Yea I’m not sure if it’s his fight iq that causes him to get cracked or just bad defence, probably a combination of both I’d imagine.

His problem is mental.

All that goofy self talk about being a modern day Genghis Khan is not doing him any favors.

Who you trying to convince?

The audience? Or yourself?

Self belief is important but it has limits.

To Melvin's credit he spent alot of his early fighting years in K-1 getting hit by dudes twice his size

Bros been wrestling since 4, and doing boxing and pankration since elementary school but gets knocked out by Lerone Murphy who started MMA in his late teens.

I've always been a little uncomfortable with these soccer mom type parents really pushing their kids too much into combat sports (treating it like their life/career instead of a hobby).

You can't tell if someone has the natural traits like knockout power and dawg in them until at least puberty. It's not like soccer, basketball etc. This is the hurt game.
He's not smart enough and isn't a fighter.

He's an athlete doing a sport he doesn't have the grit or intelligence for.

Are you for real? Pico got caught, and Lerone got lucky.

Small setback for Pico but that kid has skills and you can see it, if you can't you're blind. Fight enough times and you'll lose sooner or later. If Pico can shrug this off, I still think I watched a future champ in the making.

I honestly do think he sounds like he talks slower now, like he's def. got some BD going on probably form year and years of combat sports .... but his fight IQ is terrible. Always has been. thats what his problem is, not anything else.

Look I think Pico’s chin will be questionable moving forward, but come on that spinning elbow would’ve KO’d anybody in the division. He’s got the skills, he just gets too reckless with his defence and open with wide hooks instead of straight shots. If he got hit with a big shot and then quit to the ref, yeah you could make that claim of him not being a fighter.

Not really addressing your primary point, but regarding his parents, I remember prior to his first fight in MMA, I'd read that his parents were ok with his decision to drop out of high school to pursue wrestling and boxing.

Obviously, parenting is about love and support, but a 17 year old not even graduating highschool and choosing instead to focus entirely on a sport with notoriously limited career longevity.... wow. Granted, he's done well for himself, so arguably, it worked out all right. That said, he doesn't seem too bright.

It happens in a lot of careers. Some musicians do it, some athletes do it, and some entrepreneurs do it.
You can ALWAYS go back to academics at age 25 or 30. You don’t get another chance to pursue certain dreams which have to be tended to at a much more tender age.
It’s not the smart play and it’s a longshot for many people. But I admire their courage and root for them.

His Family has money, and hes an elite athlete so school was a waste of time for him. Pico had a successful wrestling career and tried to make it to olympics team but failed. In terms of his mma career I would argue its been solid but he keeps falling short in key moments and last nite was another one. If he would have beat Lerone he might have walked into a title shot. Its not over yet though hes only 28, he can still work his way to a title fight.
