It seems like matchmakers hate fresh contenders. First allen vs. Holloway, now ddp vs Whittaker. They keep feeding the only fresh contenders to the hardest possible challenger they could possibly give them.
I thought for sure it was gonna be Izzy/DDP next, I guess they're trying to save him for Sidney since Volk might not be able to do a quick turnaround for that card and they need someone from that region to headline.

Although even if Rob runs through DDP with ease, Izzy/Rob 3 is a very hard sell in terms of PPV buys.
Izzy's not fighting Rob a 3rd time. He's probably gonna try LHW again after another defense or 2.
Dana said in the video that the winner of this is next, now that might change depending on what happens the next few months.

This fight was just announced by the bald genius. Who take this?

Whittaker is so much more skilled unless he has a very off night I think he takes this convincingly. If he looks like he did against Vettori then Du Plessis is fucked.

DDP is unorthodox and looks strange when fighting which leads the general public to underestimate him. He guy is tough, excellent chin, excellent recovery, strong, has passable skills in all areas. But unlike other fighters of this ilk (for example, Vettori) he appears to also have power and that power carries even when he is fatigued.

I think Rob will fuck him up due to speed and cardio tho

Sigh...way to kill off a fresh contender for Izzy. NO desire to see Izzy vs Rob 3 when Rob is 0-2 against him and got KO'd in the first fight. Rematch fatigue is real...

Knuckles about to put a master ass whooping on that can.

Bad move from DDP, fighting Whittaker its like fighting the champ while not getting a belt if he wins.

UFC 290 is full of lopsided matchups but it’s looking like a very strong card nonetheless:

Volk vs Yair
Moreno vs Pantoja
Whittaker vs DDP
Turner vs Hooker
Nikal vs Gore
Kind of reminds me of Strikeforce days to be honest. On paper easy to pick out the clear favorites but also, on paper, all look to be exciting/compelling fights. I don't mind it.

I hear you but WME sure as fuck doesn't. They are lazy ass matchmakers that go for the lowest, most rotten fruit, plain and simple.

At least it isn't an insta-rematch though, I hate those even more. Izzy/Alex + Nunes/Pena fighting 3 times in a row + DC/Stipe fighting 3 times in a row + Leon/Kamaru + a bunch more I'm too lazy to write out and I'm already getting bored.

Lmao Whittaker about to kill off another contender, why the fuck wouldn't they want Izzy to fight in the summer? with how active he is he can easily be ready for MSG or December.

This is a beating I look forward to. We get to see if Dricus is too big for his britches, or if he can pull the upset, impress everyone and earn a title shot. At the moment, I haven't seen anything to indicate he fits in this close to the top.
<{jackyeah}>

So what then, Jan will drop for a MW shot based on his LHW win and recent championship draw? If that frees up Ank for the title picture, then sure.

Just saw this lol. I can't believe they're putting him up in a "title eliminator".
I'm surprised he even said the words "title eliminator." It's like hearing Vince McMahon say 'championship belt' or 'hospital.' I didn't think the UFC even liked to use that phrase anymore, since it might actually give the fighters some degree of power.

Seems like Whittaker should win easily, so I pick Du Plessis. For the sake of fuckery.
