PBP RIZIN: Shiwasu no Cho Tsuwamono Matsuri ***Sherdog Discussion*** 12/31

They are scrambling to find a bunch of early 2000's Hip Hop and RnB to fluff this card out a little longer.
They prepared a 2 hour documentary about the 10 year history of RIZIN, it starts right after the fighter promos and before the walkouts

That counter knee was his trademark technique. He got a lot of wrestlers attempting level changes with it.

He was definitely a legit top LW in his prime. The LWs over in Japan during that time frame are kind of forgotten, at least among non-hardcores. Hansen, Kawajiri, Azeredo, Shaolin, Cavalcante, Aurelio, Ishida, even Mach to an extent, and he was a top P4P fighter at one point.
I don't think there was a LW fighter around his era that he would have been a big underdog against.

He was great. It was a great era.

feel like this is the earliest a nye event has ever ended.

can asakura pull off the upset of the year?!
Would be one of the GOAT comeback stories as he almost ended his career on two straight losses and has already beat two former champs within 8 months after returning, one being a win over Koike who had beat him earlier.

Shaydullaev is a prodigious talent, and easily one of the 10, if not 5, best fighters outside the UFC right now. I know some even think he's the best, which he might be, but I need to see him in a FW division outside of RIZIN. They have some decent fighters, but the talent at 145-lbs over there isn't great like their BW and FLW divisions.

Who's he going to fight after this? Dautbek? Good fighter, but he had a FOTY contender against Suzuki and arguably lost. Kubo had a lot of success with his knees and kicks, and Dautbek didn't seem like he could even work TDs against the kickboxer. If not the UFC, it'd be cool to see him in ACA or PFL. Shaydullaev-Omarov is one of the highest level potential match-ups in MMA right now, including UFC.

With the right marketing I think Rizin could be huge in North America these days. Back in Pride days I feel like North Americans thought Japan was weird, anime was a gay, you were called a weeb if you were into anything Japanese.. nowadays everybody watches anime and wants to go to Japan.

If only the current UFC brass wasn't so allergic to fun, they could do stuff like this.

UFC not having a big blowout year ending card is dumb as hell to me.

I don't know why they stopped doing those end of year cards. There were some great ones, but feels like it stopped sometime in the mid to late 2010s.
