Sad.
I used to confuse him with the late Josh Samman

Can't help but wonder whether he knew he had cancer back then yet fought anyway, or it just came on afterwards with intense rapidity.

From the interview Helwani did with his friend the other day, it sounds more like it came recently like within the last year. I could be wrong, but that was what I understood from it.. maybe he kept it under wraps before then though.

Really sad news his family must be devastated

Rest in peace Elias Theodorou

RIP Elias, in Canada our health care system is abysmal lately...Cancer detection is terrible...I mean this guy is a pro athlete and they only detected it at stage 4? That's fucked up, considering the guy probably has checkups etc 3-4 times a year to get cleared for fights etc. Wayy to young for him to pass.

He had to of had symptoms if he was stage 4 just a few months later and terminal.. if he knew fought and won then his nickname definitely suited him

He was complaining about some pain in October last year, and that's when he started testing. Sounds like he didn't know he had it leading into his last fight.

Crazy he never got blood work done his white cells would have been high.. it's a shame, he was so young. Thanks for the reply brother

So according to Bisping, Theodorou only found out in May.

I found this on another MMA fighter. Also died of colon cancer around the same age. Could just be coincidence but maybe these supplements that the fighters take have some bad side effects? They don't tend to be regulated.

:( Funny actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney both just had their screenings done publicly. My friends, do consider getting one scheduled if you haven't done so in a while. Caught early it cannot turn into cancer and you can be worry free. Thank you. :D

So I finally ran into my buddy at work who knows Elias. He told me he had colon cancer which he was getting treated but it spread to his liver. He said he was trying to get back to the ufc and may have been taking some questionable supplements (just an assumption not fact) which caused his sudden illness…

The wake is today. He was taking off work early to attend.. sad news. My prayers are with his family. Must be devastating..:(

I hate this disease so much. I know billions go to cancer research, but it's simply not enough. For all the advances in medicine, from a layman perspective that lost a few loved ones to cancer, it feels we're still in the Middle Ages when it comes to it
The fact is that if you don't want die of cancer, you have to die of something else.

Now that humans avoid must infectious diseases, better hygiene, safer life and such, cancer shall become more common.

Taking some shit when you’re that young isn’t gonna immediately give you cancer… not hating on you at all because it’s interesting to hear what someone who knows him is saying, but it’s fucked up people will start spreading stuff like that based on nothing but a random assumption.

Agreed.

I was just thinking about some of these diet fads that some fighters and jiujitsu people go on. Eating too much red meat can increase the risk of colon cancer. I know that one is a popular fad amongst the Jordan Peterson fans.

Carnivore Diet? Joe Rogan also swore by it for a while. I tried it for a few weeks and like Joe it gave me nothing but stomach issues. The clarity of mind and weight loss did sound real appealing but I don't think it's good for the long term. Truth is we'll never know about Elias' diet/supplements nor is it our business. I do think Stage 4 takes quite a while to develop though even if made aggressive by performance items.

Pretty sure stuff like prostate cancer and brain tumours are like 10 years in the making at least, so if colon cancer is anything like that, beginning supplements 2 or so years prior isn't going to be the cause.

Elias, most likely was just really unlucky.

RIP.
