News RIP Elias Theodorou

Young (34) + athlete-level shape (extremely healthy + I assume a great diet as well) + no previous conditions (that I'm aware of).

Elias should be a case study for what odd variables can cause cancer, because he checks every box controlling for bad health in general.

RIP brother. Such a shame.
I thought the same thing. Send his liver for scientific study or something

That's awful, makes me think more about my own health man.

Health is wealth

Damn,

RIP! So young. At least he was accomplished, not many can say they fought for the world's top fighting organization.

Yeah but I was also thinking isolate what he did (anything) that isn't normal. Did he live by a power plant? Did he drink a certain energy drink all the time? Etc. I mention that because his youth/fantastic health/etc preclude the "normal" causes. I know he smoked weed but don't think he smoked cigarettes at all (one of the "normal" causes)

Sucks but I'm just hoping that they can learn something to prevent it from happening to someone else in a similar position

RIP Elias. Very sad and unexpected news. It's rare when a professional athlete in the prime of his life succumbs to this deadly disease. A wake up call that it could happen to anyone

Cancer is such a little bitch. I've known so many people that went to the doctor with a minor symptom and boom it's stage 4 cancer and they're dead weeks later. Fuck this world.

I've always wondered in those situations that if they stayed away from the doctor would they have lived much longer.
Getting hit with "stage 4 cancer" would probably drive you over the edge.

Way too young for someone to go out like that

Former UFC fighter Elias Theodorou dies from cancer at 34

Former UFC fighter Elias Theodorou has died from cancer.

He was 34 years old.

MMA Fighting confirmed the news with a representative for Theodorou, following an initial report from BJPenn.com. TSN reports that Theodorou was battling stage 4 liver cancer and that his diagnosis was known to few.

Theodorou (19-3) was a veteran of 22 MMA bouts, including an 8-3 run in the UFC. He won The Ultimate Fighter: Nations middleweight tournament and holds notable victories over Eryk Anders, Dan Kelly, Cezar Ferreira, and Sam Alvey.

Along with his fighting career, Theodorou was best known for being an advocate for the use of medicinal marijuana in combat sports. In 2020, the Canadian veteran became the first fighter to receive a therapeutic use exemption for medical cannabis, which was granted by the British Columbia Athletic Commission.

Theodorou also made headlines when he served as a “ring boy” for an Invicta FC event in 2018.

After making his pro debut in 2011, Theodorou began his career 8-0 and went on to earn a UFC contract by winning TUF in 2014. He parted ways with the promotion in 2019, following a unanimous decision loss to Derek Brunson. Back on the regional scene, Theodorou went 3-0 and scored a unanimous decision nod over Bryan Baker at a Colorado Combat event this past December in what would be his final fight.

Always puts things in perspective. You don't expect someone in their prime of their life, someone as physically fit as Elias to suffer this fate

A friend of mine is undergoing cancer treatment right now. He's 35, in relatively ok shape. Just shocking to learn

He should be proud of making it into the UFC. That's a pretty big accomplishment in itself. RIP.
