The police have previously granted permission for right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan's Koran burning in a public place. But after the Easter weekend riots, the police signal that they may now look differently at future applications
Gothenburg Police Chief Erik Nord told GP on Monday that their responsibility is to defend the freedom of expression as it is designed today.
But now, in light of the weekend's violence, the police may change their minds.
"These are extremely serious crimes that have been directed at our society, police and other blue light personnel in recent days. It is crime that shows an indifference to people's lives and health and this will be weighed in future assessments ", says Commander Jonas Hysing in a press release from the police on Wednesday
They further write that it is very unusual to deny permission "because it is a constitutionally protected right to demonstrate. However, serious disturbances, danger to life and health and property are aggravating circumstances ”.

Ahead of the demonstrations that Stram kurs wanted to hold in Linköping and Norrköping on Sunday, the two municipalities contacted the Police with the message that they would not be allowed. It emerged at a press conference that Norrköping's municipal director Anna Thörn held on Tuesday morning.
- We have stated our position that the police authority should not grant this meeting in these circumstances, says Anna Thörn.
According to the municipal director Anna Thörn, there are several rights that meet, the right to express one's opinion but also to be able to feel safe where one lives. As the situation was on Sunday, these could not be reconciled and therefore the municipalities believed that the right-wing extremist Tight Course would not be allowed to manifest and burn the Koran.
Our parliamentary system is now a paving slab. Whoever throws it the hardest wins.
