Television Rick and Morty

I am watching the new season at the gym. It is good to kill time with.

It's ok. I think if I was a bit younger I'd have loved it. Not that you have to be immature to enjoy it but I just feel like I've seen so much similar stuff now that it doesn't have much of an impact.

The most interesting thing I read about it was that it's based on the idea of the bicameral mind. It's a fascinating concept but completely impossible to prove one way or the otehr.

You'd have to be pretty smart to write it, but you don't have to be very smart to get it.

Occasionally there's a bit you have to be a little knowledgeable to get, and there are a ton of easter eggs you have to be observant to get, but a pretty average person could follow and enjoy the show seeing and understanding just about everything that happens.

The joke that too many fans seem to miss is that Rick isn't to be idolized. He's a chronically depressed alcoholic, and all his edge lord cynicism, fatalism, and apathy are frequently proven to be a skin deep fascade right down to the episode where he's praying only to take it back when things work out.

The best episodes are where they take a trope and spin into something completely different. The recent one where the villains are all story tropes. They take meta to a whole new level.

The new season has been great. They're only six(r is it seven?) seasons in, but it's been consistently AAA quality, throughout. I can count on one hand the episodes that I just don't care for, and they're not even bad. The one where Morty impregnates a robot, is the only one I would consider a "skip", but even then, it still has some moments, and is leagues above the worst of what other animated shows have to offer.

The show is fine in and of itself. The fans are fucking obnoxious though. It's a funny, somewhat witty, 20 minute cartoon. It's not a fucking Ingmar Bergman movie
