Rewatch Rewatched BJ vs. GSP I

BJ was better that night and if you consider the size difference, there is no doubt who was the superior fighter back then.
Georges considers Bj the best fighter he has ever faced because of that night.
GSP kept evolving though, BJ didn't.
no, he wasnt better. He was better in the first round, that was it. The second round, GSp outstruck him in volume and %, and landed 2 takedowns. Third round was beyond clear. 29 - 28, only debated by haters

In volume yeah, in better shots nope

2006, three round fight.

BJ's boxing completely dominated GSP on the feet in rounds 1 and 2. GSP had a takedown in round 2 but BJ got back up, and GSP had a nice slam takedown in round 3. Again, BJ got back up. BJ took GSP down in the 3rd and GSP got right back up.

One area GSP dominated was in the leg kicks. He landed a lot, though BJ didn't seem affected.

GSP's face was completely wrecked from BJ's boxing.

More like it was completely wrecked by Penn's brutal eyepoke which meant that St-Pierre had to fight with one eye for the rest of the fight. And was then transfered to the hospital for a cut eyeball from Penn's nail, which led to the pathetic "I spent my night partying; he spent his at the hospital!!" <{cruzshake}>

Even Joe Rogan, who's a Penn dickrider "to teh death", made note of the eye-poke from BJ.
It's very telling that Cecil Peoples is the only who gave the fight to BJ <6>

GSP>Penn

Sherdog gave GSP comfy decison, 2 rounds to 1.

Georges St. Pierre (Pictures) vs B.J. Penn

Round 1
Both fighters starting fast with kicks and punches. Nice jab from BJ. Georges bleeding heavily from the nose. Spinning back kick misses for Georges. Pace starting to slow a bit, with "Rush" pushing Penn against the fence. Georges shoots in but Penn defends. BJ smoothly defends another takedown attempt. St. Pierre is bleeding bad from just under his right eye and nose. Excellent right punch to St. Pierre's body. Round one ends with Georges's face looking awful.
Sherdog Score 10-9 B.J. Penn

Round 2
"Rush" starts with several low kicks, none of which connect solidly. Georges secures a double-leg takedown and brings BJ to the mat. St. Pierre working from Penn's open guard. Georges rises to his feet and dives in with a nice right hand that lands. BJ escapes to his feet. Penn looking a bit tired. St. Pierre lands a nice knee to the face, but BJ is unphased. St. Pierre lands a kick to the body and a right hand. "Rush" gets the better of a punching exhange, with BJ landing a left counter. Another takedown for St. Pierre.
Sherdog Score: 10-9 Georges St. Pierre

Round 3

Big slam takedown from St. Pierre to start round three. Penn working from guard with heels on hips. Penn escapes to his feet, with both now clinched against the cage. Both fighters trade jabs. BJ shoots for his first takedown attempt of the night. Georges goes to one knee but rises back to his feet. Nice elbow from St. Pierre. Yet another takedown from St. Pierre. No urgency shown from BJ yet, with only 40 seconds to go. Penn now works for a omaplata, but it's answered with a huge elbow as the third round closes.
Sherdog Score: 10-9 Georges St. Pierre (29-28)

And the rematch was such a domination that Penn had to quit on the stool, and then tried to sue St-Pierre and brought him mom to speak on his behalf at the the tribunal
"I thought my son was going to die in there, how could they lock him up in a cage with that monster??" {<BJPeen}

Vaseline gait is the saddest excuse in the history of MMA. GSP absolutely dominated BJ from the first minute to the last minute of that fight, and that is why BJ quit on the stool. Blaming Vaseline has always been hilarious. GSP dominated and won because he was a much bigger and much better fighter than BJ at that point.

It's seriously pathetic.

The biggest cope related to this incident, was during one of Anderson Silva (who was "caught") rubbing vaseline all over his body a few times, he wasn't exactly hiding it well.
Anyway, Penn & Silva fanbases were pretty close, since they both needed GSP gone, and for a while we had several serious threads stating that "AS was obviously not greasing, he was pretending to do so to mock GSP, didn't you see him pointing at George before he started to pretend-rub?"

(PRO TIP: he never pointed at GSP, but back then we didn't have so many gifs and UFC fights readily available on youtube, we just had the JMMA fights that didn't get ©-striked)

It was blatant and he continually got away with it, right after they applied the vaseline he would wipe it all off his brow and onto his chest and arms. No fucks given by the fans. When they realized what happened with GSP they scrubbed him raw before letting the fight continue. But it's the worst crime in UFC fight history, apparently LOL

Penn was a product of marketing and hype.

Rogan can’t stop himself from talking up Penn for the whole fight. I would like him to have to watch this fight back today and answer for his brutal commentary. He should have been fired with Mike Goldberg

outside of Anderson

lol at your implication that only the irrational and the Canadians disagree with your all-knowing opinion.

What the second fight showed was that GSP > Penn at all of the above. Skill, talent, cardio, and endurance were ALL in GSP's favor. Implying otherwise is silly; that fight is 100% domination in every way. BJ's talent and skill at the time of the first fight might compare well, but not after the second. Crystal clear who was superior after that. GSP kept improving, and BJ didn't.
How's the weather in Canada?

It's actually GSP himself who says BJ is the best fighter he ever fought, which is saying something. Georges apart from many other great fighters.

Yet here we have a classic shertard saying "Penn was a product of marketing and hype"

GSP fanboys in sherbro are a disgrace for Georges himself. He deserves much better. What a bunch of absolute nerds make up the GSP fanboyism on these boards

GSP has said every fighter he fought was the best fighter he ever fought.

Penn has the extreme love of weirdos like you but in terms of his performances, he was very hit and miss. He had some great moments but it was never wise to bet on him. Just deal with it

The fact BJ was undersized against gsp and have him all he could handle first fight says alot. BJ was a great fighter.

Im not particularly fan of BJ dude, I actually can't stand the guy.

So you are trying to deny that GSP acknowledged BJ as the best fighter he ever faced, the most skilled? Georges and many other fighters of that generation acknowledged him as such.
This is not something anybody who actually followed MMA at the time would deny.

I mean, as far as Im concerned you are just fitting my description about the typical GSP fanboy shertard

Yeah, not a big fan of that claim, especially since he totally tooled these guys. Sour grapes.

GSP was a great sport when Penn and Shields tried to poke his eyes out. Worse than any Vaseline ever.

It’s a valid claim as he’s doing it live on tv. If you have any experience grappling or even jerking off a towel isn’t going to wipe that off.
I like all those guys. Im just saying it’s a huge difference if someone greases in the grappling department and what other fighters have said about gsp. it’s not a shocking claim at all though.
It’s all apart of the game.
It’s common still today in all levels of grappling.
