Republicans know their policies are unpopular and that America is waking up to the shitshow. Rather than work with their constituents they are advising congressmen to avoid in-person town halls. To hide. Cowardly but I'm not surprised.

"Rep. Richard Hudson, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, encouraged House Republicans to do more virtual events over in-person town halls, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting.

The plea comes as multiple House Republicans have faced fiery constituents at recent in-person town halls concerning cuts to the federal workforce and the impact Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency has had on communities."

"Recent" the article also stated his approval rating is 52%, that's the Harris poll, most others have him at around 45 to 47%, come back in a month and we'll see what the numbers say..

I'm not clicking on that trash.

No point having them if democrats are going to flood them and not allow them to happen for video content.

If the reps truly thought it was reflective of wider voter discontent and not democrats scrounging for anything that appears to be a W, then they wouldn’t entertain cancelling town halls because cancelling them is a bad idea if not everybody understands what is happening.. but they know their jobs are safe.

If this was legit, they wouldn’t think that at all..which is why they cite “optics”. The harassment is for optics so no giving them the satisfaction and nothing changes.

But as everything democrats do, it’s a show

I mean Elon did say that Federal Employees can no longer work from home. I guess the Repubs are taking that literally. Also, how is dealing with "paid protesters" any different than what you would do if you were campaigning for election or re-election?

This is an odd statement. They could still get video content if the politician holds their town hall online. Also, what is the evidence that it just for optics? If a person has an issue with how a representative does their job and shows up to the town hall is that just optics? The complaint that the NRCC has is no different than what they will run into when they run for re-election. So basically the NRCC is basically saying avoid town halls, if you can, until it is time to get re-elected and ask for money.

Is there any evidence these are paid actors? Mike Johnson made the claim in an interview and was asked if he had proof of that claim. After stuttering like Billy Bibbit from "One flew over...." the answer was "no". I'm not saying there aren't any, but making that claim was purely defensive by the GOP and not grounded in fact.

Do you have any sources or proof that the people asking the tough questions are democrats?

Regardless a representative needs to hear from their district IMHO.

If a person has an issue with their representative they can go to the town hall and say it. That’s not the issue though and not what they are doing. What is for optics is the incessant booing and not even allowing these town halls to really happen.

The video content they want can’t be achieved through a virtual town hall because then they can’t get their “MAGA REGRET! ANOTHER GOP CONGRESSMAN BOOED OUT OF TOWN HALL” clickbait by shouting down the representative. Which is what these are organized and designed to do. Targeting deep red areas as well.

They would have to go one by one and show their grievance..if they can articulate them. That’s not as good for optics for the people disrupting the town halls.

These optics are clearly meant ti create a narrative that America has turned on Trump though no real numbers or average bares that out.

The NRCC and Mike Johnson himself is betting on these being organized by national and state democratic activists groups and not being reflective of their constituency.

As usual, it doesn’t add up. Like basically every left leaning political or cultural movement of the past decade. More turf than a miniature golf course

If they’re wrong they’ll pay…but I think we all know they won’t be. They should move to virtual town halls and see how real the backlash really is.

Strange, considering Trump was just overwhelmingly re-elected for a second term, winning the popular vote and sweeping every swing state. There's not much evidence for this "Trump regret" or "America is waking up" narrative that Reddit wishes was real.

To me, party leaders telling representatives not to do in person town halls shows a lack of confidence. They don't have acceptable words to justify their agenda so better to keep quiet is the way it looks.

Maybe folks are realizing many of Trumps campaign promises were trash? Maybe folks don't want America to look like a pussy and abandon Ukraine? The fact that, in just weeks, Trumps policies are tanking the economy?

It's probably a number of things.

Par for the course.

Dems in red districts were canceling townhalls when ACA negotiations were taking place.

Except for the cratering economy and the fact that this very thread is about republicans being instructed not to appear in public meetings because they look like shit and have no answers.

Pretty stupid to pretend the party's on solid grounds when these are you instructions.
