Republican Senators: Americans dont need high speed internet

Fucking lol at 4 Mbps considered high speed

Pathetic. 20 is the minimum usable in my opinion. 30-40 needed to have you not cuss out your computer from time to time

I didn't get fiber until after Thanksgiving. Before that I was on isdn speeds. Speed test.net said I was slower than 93% of the country

Just looked up my provider.

50/50 is the lowest connection they even sell (40$ month), 500/500 as the highest (145$ month).. That also includes free landline phone services.

just the thought of 500/500 makes my dick hard.

im currently using 18/3 and 30/3 connections.

Makes sense from the cable companies perspective. They don't want to go out there and redo the line work to increase the high-speed capabilities. It will cost them a lot.

This is in response to the government mandating high speed Internet access, and the cable company saying, "hey this is high speed enough" and the government saying no its not...back and forth back and forth

I don't think Netflix is a good enough reason to justify our government requiring the cable companies to increase the speed, personally.

I pay 65 total (taxes, fees) 100 mb download. Wireless gets no where near that speed. Unless i.use the 5ghz vs the 2.4. (However the 5 ghz wont reach my downstairs so kind of useless.

We tried our damnedest to "sweeten the pot" with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and the ISPs pinky swore that they were gonna upgrade infrastructure...which they did not do.

Fuck them, mandate it. Taxpayers already paid for it. Time for the ISPs to pay the piper.

Republican Senators: We can't hear you while we're counting all this $$$

Six Republican senators wrote a letter recently complaining to the fcc that the new definition of high speed internet(from 4mbps to 25) is just too fast and most Americans dont need that kind of speed. Of course if you are planning to enjoy netflix 4k, four mbps wont even come close to being able to stream it. Netflix recommends you have 25mbps. Surprisingly their reasons for not having a new level of high speed internet mirrors isps reasoning as well. All six senators have received thousands from isps.

THIS IS OUR ALIEN INVASION!

Finally a common cause that will unite all sherdog War Room participants!

When I was living in Japan you could get fiber optic unlimited for $15.00 a month. I had people off-base downloading everything and then some.

Japan thinks "Give everyone the best we can and we'll all benefit."

America thinks "You don't deserve our best you peasant."

Wow, a topic that finally unites the War Room

You don't *need* most things. You don't even really need internet. Poor argument.

Let's take away their broadband internet for a year, give them dial up (no cell phone internet), and see what these idiots say then.

This, times infinity.

Great prices (my provider)... 50/50 on fiber optics with 0 downtime, 0 download limit etc for 40$ a month seems fair to me. Don´t know what you pay, what speed you have and what cabling you get.

Cable vision. Price seems a big high over by us in jersey. I know other people who feel similar but it's not as if my connection is a mess and constantly lagging or crashing entirely.

That's ridiculously short sighted. It only makes sense if your idea of selling a service is to make it as shitty as you can and suppress technology. Investing in access to information has proven to be somewhat useful, to put it mildly.

of course it makes sense for them. they wanna saddle you with cable bills rather than have people leave for streaming services. it makes no sense for the average person.

Someone posted this in comments section. I just spent 30 minutes verifying it.
As a country, we are fucked since corporate America now rights our laws.
I'm quoting this post so that people can read what the real problem is - too much power in lobbying interests from big corporations. The people who attached their name to this nonsense are putting their monied interests ahead of their constituents and should be voted out of office.

They like guns, but a slow internet.........................makes sense. ABSOLUTE INCOMPETENCE.

Technically, 4Mbps is high speed. Considering the amount of people in the US that still rely on dial up or shitty DSL services that cut out with a flea fart 4Mbps is lightning fast.
When out at the family's place where the only internet we have is dial up, I would spend an hour per day shilling for Adolf Hitler if it meant we could have access to 4mb internet. Out there, I download at ass blistering speeds of 2.7 kilobytes per second.
