Three days ago was the "late" Evan Tanner's birthday. He was an MMA fighter who fought in numerous organizations including the UFC and Pancrase. He was known for his steely grit and incredulous detremination. He was also a former UFC Middleweight Champion by defeating a young (up and comer) David Terrell. Evan had truly memorable fights, including his two victories against Phil Baroni where he looked as if he would get KO'd both times. He holds notable victories over Robbie Lawler, Travis Fulton, Heath Herring, Paul Buentello, Ikushiwa Minowa. He will always be known as a very game and tough fighter, and one who never refused a fighter under any circumstance. Unfortunately Evan Tanner was found dead in the desert (Clapp Springs) near Palo Verde, California as he trekked the desert alone and had not enough water. The year was 2008.

So here, i will lay tribute to one of the toughest men to ever enter the Octogon.

I remember getting banned because of this in 2008.

Evan was slightly before my time, but he seemed like a great guy and a great fighter

RIP

shouldn't have, ts... someone is just going to post a gif of him losing or diss him.

if you want to show true respect, keep it out of 2017 sherdog heavies

If thats the case i think thats quite reprehensible, for any fighter no less. However i will have "faith" no on ewill.

I always had mad respect for the guy. Kindred spirits. BELIEVE

WAR TANNER!!!

I regret that I have to post this in here, but judging by previous incarnations of this and other fallen UFC fighter threads, I feel the need to say:

Choose your words carefully. Keep it clean and respectful or dubs and bans WILL be handed out.

If you want more info go look into Chael Sonnen's podcast. He goes over the history of Evan Tanner and pulls no punches.

He was a warrior, tough as nails and seemed like a legitimately good person.

RIP champ

RIP. Great fighter and seemed like a very down to earth guy. I remember when I was pretty high on Lawler and thought he was gonna KO Tanner, and Tanner sub'd him pretty easily in round 1. God rest his soul.

Can't believe it's already been 9 years since he passed. He was a very tough dude and seemed like a down to earth guy. Unfortunately his demons got the best of him. He was a warrior.

There was huge hype around David Terrell before the Tanner fight.
RIP

RIP Tanner. One of my favourites when I got into the sport.

Here's a sad but very detailed documentary on how he died if anyone cares to view:

One of the fighters I liked the most. Seemed like a truly decent guy that just happened to enjoy fighting for a living. Would have loved to sit down over a beer and shoot the breeze with him. Very sad when I heard of his death.
