If Jones defeats Gane, he'll be just as much of a paper champion, and yet the narrative is getting spun in a much more positive light if Jones happens to accomplish the feat of defeating the non-lineal champion; at least when Cormier became LHW champion, it was against Rumble who hadn't already lost to the lineal champion (unlike Gane).

Daniel never beat the real LHW champion(Jon Jones). He only got ahold of the belt because the commissions and the UFC signed a piece of paper stripping Jon Jones ... which makes DC the definition of a paper champ at 205 lbs.
I'm sorry but, to be the champ, you gotta beat the champ, and DC already has two loses against Bones.
