Remember me....Jens Pulver

hate to be the guy that goes there.. but extremely overrated and was washed up by 30

all he really has is that 3 fight win steak where he beat Uno, Hallman, and Penn(which at the time was a big big thing)

career went downhill big time after being KO'd by Gomi.. never really adjusted/adapted to beginning of modern era after making comeback

not HOF material IMO

These threads i make are meant for retired fighters to not be forgotten.

Modern fighters should pay homage to guys like Jens...they held the fort and kept the sport going during the less popular times.

As far as Jens, he capsized hard, but still gave us some great moments and beat a (albeit greenish) BJ Penn. That deserves respect.

Nobody ever makes a thread about Mach Sakurai who KO'd this guy.

Pretty fucking stupid thing to post in a thread about Jens Pulver

Alot of kids on here don't know the legends of this sport, that made this sport great. Before the big $$ fights, fighters fought cause they loved the sport.

I met Jon Lewis a couple times and was impressed with him as a fighter.

Jens flattened him like a pancake.

Yeah, Jens Pulver was very accommodating to the fans. I met him in the MGM Grand lobby during UFC 36. He talked to me and my friends for a bit and even let me put on his UFC belt for a pic. Super nice guy. He also did a good job as a color commentary guy for some cards.

Jens, like every other fighter had his prime. He beat some of the best of his era, Joe Stevenson, BJ, Hallman, Uno. He was a tenacious fighter. Also had that guillotine win over Cub Swanson in his first WEC fight which was kind of surprising. He lost a step after 30 like virtually all the lighter fighters do. If he retires after the first Faber loss, which would have made sense maybe he is remembered a little more fondly.

My Jens Pulver story (I'm gonna tell this one every Jens thread):

Couple years ago, UFC on FOX in Chicago. Dillashaw vs Barao 2.

I'm walking through the food court in between fights and I spot Jens sitting by himself.

I'm an old school guy and I'm a big Jens fan. He's on my MMA mount Rushmore no doubt.

Anyway, Jens is just sitting there talking on his cellphone. I'm an idiot and not thinking and I just run up to him saying hey Jens Pulver! I instantly realize I've just totally interrupted Jens' conversation quite rudely.

Jens says over his cell "Gotta go man, talk to you later". He hangs up his phone, immediately jumps out of his seat with a big smile on his face and hand outstretched for a handshake.

I apologize right away for interrupting his call, I kinda got carried away. Jens wouldn't have any of it. He said "I got all the time in the world for a fan". Let me sit with him for about 10-15 minutes and fanboy away. Got some pics. It was like bumping into an old friend you haven't seen for awhile.

The guy was 100% a class act. War Jens.

Should be a shoo in for the MMA HOF. A Pioneer.
I was literally reading the thread and recalling your post from another Jens thread a while ago. He seems like a good dude. I liked him on tuf

He's an emotional dude, total warrior. War Pulver!

I did a book report on his book Little Evil in high school, always really respected Jens and was 1 of the first ever lightweights in MMA.

I was just going to say I've had the pleasure of speaking to the man himself and everything you state is true. He is all class and appreciative of his fans. Such a cool dude.

Great story, I love hearing stuff like that.

I read his book, he had a tough life, he had a great career up to a point, its always sad to see guys stick around too long but I guess for a lot of them its all they know and they've got that fighters spirit.
