Raised in a troubled home back in Sunnyside, Washington )Lil Evil) Jens Pulver then made "trouble" in the octagon. An NJCAA Wrestling All-American alongside being exceptionally gifted with his hands, it made for a lighting-quick combo and gave his opponents fits in underground unsanctioned fights in 1998. Before he honed his skills for MMA with Militech Fighting Systems in 1999.He would start is career at the Bas Rutten Invitational before he got his run at the UFC. Winning 3 straight in the UFC, he got a chance to become the first UFC Lightweight champion by facing Caol Uno at UFC 30, he would win the UD decision and get the gold. He would defend it twice, even beating the (Prodigy) B.J. Penn at UFC 35 when many journalists had Penn defined as "unbeatable". Lil Evil would leave the UFC and his belt behind and fight in other organizations such as Pride, Shooto, IFC, WEC and others....he would have a tumultuous career filled with ups and down while fighting top contenders all over the world.

His career, much like his upbringing found him fighting with dignity and courage. While also being at the hands of defeat in violent fashion. He finished his career with a record (27-19-1) and was in many memorable matches with some of the legendary names of MMA. (Lil Evil) Jens Pulver will always be remembered as having the heart of a champion when the odds were stacked against him.

Jens Pulver vs Naoya Uematsu ((Shooto 3/22 Korakuen Hall)

Was a big fan of Jens...and that nickname is one of the best ever.

I think he deserves to be in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Jens was coming out right around when I was losing interest in mma.
Good post though... takes me back.

My Jens Pulver story (I'm gonna tell this one every Jens thread):

Couple years ago, UFC on FOX in Chicago. Dillashaw vs Barao 2.

I'm walking through the food court in between fights and I spot Jens sitting by himself.

I'm an old school guy and I'm a big Jens fan. He's on my MMA mount Rushmore no doubt.

Anyway, Jens is just sitting there talking on his cellphone. I'm an idiot and not thinking and I just run up to him saying hey Jens Pulver! I instantly realize I've just totally interrupted Jens' conversation quite rudely.

Jens says over his cell "Gotta go man, talk to you later". He hangs up his phone, immediately jumps out of his seat with a big smile on his face and hand outstretched for a handshake.

I apologize right away for interrupting his call, I kinda got carried away. Jens wouldn't have any of it. He said "I got all the time in the world for a fan". Let me sit with him for about 10-15 minutes and fanboy away. Got some pics. It was like bumping into an old friend you haven't seen for awhile.

The guy was 100% a class act. War Jens.

Should be a shoo in for the MMA HOF. A Pioneer.

Cool story

Gotta remember the old legends that came to fight...man I miss the old days

The guy used to have a gym here in Idaho outside of Boise. Combat fitness, now SBG Idaho, merged with it and then I'm not sure what happened. I don't think the gym is around anymore and I'm not sure where Jens is.

Also ts, I'm not sure what a "UD decision" is.

Jens Pulver...u gotta love this guy!

I think it was his left hand...which was filled with dynamite..

It's weird because I was thinking about him this morning and this is at the top of the feed.

UD Unanimous Decision

was a huge lil evil fan, guy always went out on his shield.

hate to be the guy that goes there.. but extremely overrated and was washed up by 30

all he really has is that 3 fight win steak where he beat Uno, Hallman, and Penn(which at the time was a big big thing)

career went downhill big time after being KO'd by Gomi.. never really adjusted/adapted to beginning of modern era after making comeback

not HOF material IMO

Damn harsh and didn't really need said. No one is calling him the greatest but he was a loveable fighter who always put on a show. Also little respect for anyone who was the number 1 fighter in the world in their weight class however brief they held the spot. Always liked the guy.

Isn't it supposed to be "Don't you forget about me"?
