MT/KB Japan Recent fights/results/news from Japan II

On genji's wiki it says he fought kongnapa twice and went 1-1....unless its a different guy.

any updates on that?

Quite a bit. I would not worry about K-1 Japan going away yet, but it seems like Kensaku Maeda was the victim of a targeted coup by the new K-1 Japan head Miyata (head of Krush) and the betrayal of all his Team Dragon students who abandoned him to start their own gym.

Chronology and who started that is still cloak and daggers territory. There's been official press statements released by both Kensaku Maeda and the 21 pro fighters who abandoned him, so I'll prob translate that down the line.

Yo just in case y'all didn't know who is who we went ahead and inserted some giant cut outs of them on the screen during the stare down. Don't worry, when action begins we'll shove that in the corner only blocking fighters footwork. Who wants to look at that when you can check out Kimura's frosted tips?

thanks, you're the man.

damn. always had the feeling Maeda is a nice guy and liked amongst the fighters. curious to hear what he has done.

Anyone knows/remembers anything interesting about Shuichi Wentz?

Sweet KO.

There's a name I haven't heard of in a while. He retired after this fight I think, final record of 16-7-1. I've met him as I trained for a while at Scramble Shibuya (currently Crosspoint) where he is an instructor. These days he's more into golf than KB I think. He apparently originally wanted to be a MMA fighter and started in KB because he saw Mirko decapitating people with headkicks. Solid, but not spectacular fighter. Peak of his accomplishments was getting a J-Network belt (one of the lesser domestic titles) and being on a few REBELs cards. He's fought a few tier 1.5 type domestic fighters (e.g. Terado, Ichinohe), but was never able to score the win to propel him up.

Wentz of course is not his real name (which is Ishimura Shuiichi). Its a gag name that was forced upon him because the teacher thought he looked a bit like Wentz Eiji (a Japanese celebrity).

Frankly its a shock to everyone. Maeda is extremely well respected and nobody has heard of him being anything less than a gentleman. Not only that, but he was known to be a surrogate father figure for a lot of his students (e.g. Takeru, Urabe bros).

Lots of rumors around the place, but prevailing opinion is that he was too naive to survive in the cutthroat world of Japanese kickboxing.

Thanks a lot, I'm impressed by your knowledge! :)

The best outsiders need to fight competitively more in Thailand. Umeno is certainly the best fighter not from Thailand and needs more fights in Thailand. If Umeno produced a decent run there he could end up as the GOAT outsider. This is the only stage where you can know a Thai will fight seriously. Not saying Yodlekpet didn't, but you see it all the time when Thais go elsewhere.

Genji had a press conference today and suggested that he was up for defending the belt in Thailand. He also mentioned that he wants to fight Yodlekpet again since he's 1-1 vs. him and settling the score in his home would only be fair.

Presumably, that'll be after he fights in KNOCK OUT in Decemeber vs. whoever.

If Minoru can't win this, then he should commit seppuku for losing in a supposed gimme fight twice.

If he wins then I wonder should Rizin continues to treat him like a Japanese prospect and feed him easy fight, or treat him like a heel with most punchable face and match him against Japanese star.
