So found a car at a good price and good mileage. The guy has the title and its clean, but carfax shows a total loss. I saod fuck it and even bought title check to make sure it wasnt really salvaged and he is showing me old title. Same there! Clean title.

Whats happening here?

Is this common? Last thing showed was on 5th of this month and said "Title or registration issued
to insurance company
Vehicle color noted as White"

Sounds like it did have a wreck but it wasn't all the way totaled cause one if those reports would say salvaged

Is it possible to falsify a title?

Only thing I've heard is a washed title and they might be showing you the original title which was clean at the time. But a title check would tell you i think if they went to a different state

So many scammers out there. Could be a wrong vin, but not sure about the title thing.

Could have had title in hand prior to wreck, and is showing you the original?

I’d avoid just in case. Salvaged vehicles are impossible to sell unless you’re going to give them away.

No matter the cause if you buy you’ll never be able to sell.

Would negotiate and make deal u til very end. Then say don’t feel comfortable and start to walk away. If he starts dealing with you ask for outrageously low price. Take it or leave it situation.

I just found pics of it when got wrecked( paid 5$ for another report) it also says the title is clean.

I was wondering why that bitch looked so damn clean.

Im just gonna ask for low ass price.

I would avoid.

Plenty of cars around.

Take it to a mechanic for an inspection. He will easily be able to tell if the car has been in a wreck.

I just called title dmv here in tx and they said it's clean title. Maybe after it got fixed they didnt consider it total loss.

You gotta think about resale value at this point. That's always going to be there making the car worth 40-50% less than blue book. Sounds like a washed title at some point, really easy to do as someone mentioned above me. Treat that car like it has herpes.

I bought a salvaged acura csx in 06. Drove it for over 10 years before selling it. Just depends what people are looking for. Of course I took it to an acura dealer and they did their full inspection on it before I agreed to buy it.

I don't know about today, but in the past, there were some States that didn't have that information on their titles. Kentucky was one of them. There were companies that specialized in cleaning titles by registering a vehicle in a state that didn't have salvaged titles. It's the reason companies like Carfax were started. The insurance companies also had an interest in not insuring previously totaled vehicles so they provide information that they paid off as a total loss. Some states put a notice on a title that came from a state that didn't have any information on their titles.

Guy I know bought a used vette, clean title as per NS records. When he went to sell it one of the buyers ran the VIN and it came up salvage. Ended up taking almost $10K bath on the sale.

Turned out the thing had been written off within days of being purchased and one of the previous owners had gone to NL and had the repairs done to the point it was recertified, but then somehow the "salvage" flag magically got lost when the vehicle came to NS.

Tons of shady shit going on with cars... I've been lucky so far, but I buy used so it's only a matter of time.

How much did they charge for that?
