"real" oatmeal vs. instant oatmeal in packets

I got a recipe from a bodybuilding trainer that tastes pretty good. Get the big tub of whole oats, and when you make a bowl, add unsweetened cocoa powder and pure maple syrup (as in straight from the tree...nothing else added to it). The syrup sweetens the cocoa...kinda tastes like hot Cocoa Puffs.
