Movies Rate and Discuss the Last Movie You Saw v.16

With Disney specifically, it's largely political.
No, it isn't. People like you might not watch a movie because of a perceived political message based on casting or comments made by actors/producers, but you're rarely judging the movie on its own merits.
Mufasa, The Little Mermaid, and most of the latest Star Wars and Marvel movies have been failures because the writing was shit above all else. Even the so-called woke crowd aren't supporting these movies. If the issue was the political messaging, there'd still be an audience for these movies.
Most normal people don't care if there's a black this, or gay that if it's written well.

Nope.

Nope.

What do you think you proved here? You just proved my point. People like you don't care about reality, just optics.
You didn't watch the movie, so you can't even offer a biased informed opinion on it.
Before even watching a movie, people like you write everything off as being 'woke/DEI' aka, political bullshit, and then complain about political messaging in movies.

Using your own logic, these movies should still be successful because there are plenty of "Woke"/DEI loving liberals" in America. I'd be considered one. So why did I think a lot of what Marvel and Star Wars has done lately has been trash?

Why YOU and the other geniuses that can't separate their politics from entertainment have issue with movies they didn't watch is clear---but, you people are a minority. Normal people watch a movie, and either think it is good or bad based on the story, acting, and other technical aspects of film.

Lots of people support the idea of DEI. The result is shit movies. It's a nice idea in theory that doesn't work in practice.

That's just your latest buzzword to label people you don't like or don't agree with. I myself enjoy meeting people that don't live like me and have a different culture. Your spirituality is in peril, brother. You are not one with the earth. Have you tried DMT?

A real pain (2024)

There was a lot within this film that could have gone awry, but Eisenberg strikes an excellent balance here. The elements of the story that need to be treated seriously are. The ones that need to be funny are funny, and inbetween those are moments where it almost tricks you into laughing when you aren't sure you should.

I think Culkin's performance echoes this too. His split personality can range from one extreme to another. And he plays it with enough authenticity both ways. The ups and downs seem to affect Eisenberg more than him, who takes Culkin's emotional baggage on himself for reason revealed later on. And gives a great performance himself. Together, they form a very good buddy team. I'd like to see more films with them together.

Eisenberg and Culkin are the stars, but the inclusion of Will Sharpe, Kurt Egyiawan, Jennifer Grey, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes rounds out a group who I didn't mind hanging out with for 90 minutes.

Parts 1 and 2 as a whole……9/10

Finally got around to Dune Part 2. Watched it back to back with Part One. Having never read the novels. I had no preconceived notions outside of how bad the previous attempts were.

That being said, Dune is bordering on perfection to me cinematically. I know others hate on Timothy and Zendaya, but they work well together for me.

I give it a 8.5/10. The only thing I hated about the movie was the piano soundtrack. Danny Elfman would've made the movie a 9/10.

Speak No Evil (2024) 6/10. Completely unnecessary remake that loses the entire point of the original. Most people only complain about the change to the ending, but it was all the little changes along the way that really fucked things up. McAvoy was great. Worth a watch just for him.

Emilia Perez (2024)

7/10

I went into this with very low expectations. I dont like musicals and it just felt like this was OSCAR bait crap with the whole trans angle. I read another poster on here who gave it a 2/10 saying it was just a bad movie. But I have to say, I liked it a lot. Almost gave it a 8/10. Its a great story that moves at a fast pace and is very grimy and dark.

Its about a mexican cartel boss with blood on his hands and he has a wife and 2 young kids and he hires a lawyer to help him fake his own death while protecting his family and transitioning to a woman where he can live out his life in peace and away from the crime he grew up with. 4 years later, now a full blown sex changed woman, she decides that she wants her kids back in her life and she pretends to be their aunt and then realizes the horrible impact she had on society as a cartel boss and starts an organization to helps people find their missing family members.

The movie ends with Emelia getting dragged back into some crime with shootouts etc... Fun and exciting ride. I do recommend. There is 1 terrible musical scene near beginning of movie that discusses sex changes and I admit this was a comically bad scene that has been leaked online as an example of why this movie sucks. But I feel that scene was an outlier and the other musical scenes were good.

Yeah the original was really good, one of my recent standouts as I went in almost completely blind and it took me by surprise.

Paranormal Next of Kin--4/10
I needed some fun fluff horror and this missed the mark but was serviceable. An adopted college aged girl works with a few friends to film a documentary to show where she came from. She does a 23 and me and finds out she is Amish. The setting and premise are spooky as hell, as her true "family" may not be what they seem. But it takes too long to get going and the shaky camera trick is played out. Not really sure how it relates to the original Paranormal Activity flicks besides the shaky camera footage. This had the potential to be scary as hell, but just lost it's focus.

What happened to CRT? I think the right tries to keep the buzzword as short and simple as possible for the 'tards. Enjoy your brainwashing. Rinse. Repeat.
Keep your head in the sand. But hey, with you on your high horse, at least movies like Madame Web and The Marvels still get made.
