Movies Rate and Discuss the Last Movie You Saw v.16

Road House (2024)
As remake's go, this wasn't a patch on the original but far from bad! Gyllenhaal was solid in the lead role, but I preferred Swayze's Dalton. McGregor is a poor actor, as expected, but I dunno man I thought he suited the vibe of the film really well - he was like a OTT panto villain and did alright at it. In general it was a fun movie.
6/10

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread this year.

Not to exclude anybody, but special mention to:

@revoltub The glue who keeps this thread going

@HenryFlower Has watched Tetsuo: The Iron Man way, way too many times. I have no other choice but to conclude they are a total degenerate in an awesome way. Great taste in films. (Here is a "temporal pincer movement" reference just for you. enjoy).

@Jackonfire Great taste in film and I hope that you decide to post more reviews in 2025.

(Presumed) RIP to thread stalwart BisexualMMA. Big loss for these forums. I hope that you just got tired of Sherdog and are alive and well and watching your fill of 70's films over the holidays.

Merry Christmas and or happy holidays bud and to all as well. I'm trying to cram in so many xmas movies before the 26th.

Btw, Dear santa....I was very disappointed/10

Hes alive. I truly believe it. But I guess his account is gone?

Werewolves - 5.5/10. Laughably bad. Has frank grillo in it so that is all you need to know. Its like a modern B movie - better effects than 80/90s Bmovies but still laughable and lots of But WTF just happened moments.

If you can watch it for free then it might be a nice wast of a an hour and a half - otherwise skip it if you have to pay for it.

Happy Holidays. I've really come to appreciate this thread. There's a handful of movies I've watched as a direct result of reading about them in here. I hope that continues in the coming year.

And just another reminder. Everyone should watch Sing Street. It was one of @BisexualMMA 's favorites I think, he gave it an 8/10. The trailer doesn't do it justice so no point in posting.

The Foreigner - still watching, not done yet

I bought the DVD cheap on Black Friday years ago and never got around to watching it. May have gotten it confused with Shinjuku Incident. It's on Netflix, I think. It starts with sad devastated Jackie who promptly turns into Rambo/Frank Castle The Punisher. So far not bad.

Top Gun Maverick

Re-runs back to back on Paramount channel. When I first saw the trailer, I assumed Mav flying the futuristic jet was to take on the final huge finale big battle. Feels like they didn't pick the best camera angles for Penny in the first bar scene.

My family has some older folks so Christmas Eve, we have a feast and make some cocktails and have a movie marathon:

We start with:
Christmas Vacation--9/10
One of the funniest movies of all time. The whole family laughs and has a great time with it. Many can relate. The older ones tell stories, and we have seen it so many times it just makes the experience better. Everyone has their favorite scenes.

A Christmas Story--9/10
This usually plays in the back round while we eat. A true classic captures a moment in time that we all can relate to in some way.

It's a Wonderful Life--10/10
We finish the night with this. The younger ones are doing their own thing by this point. My wife and I truly enjoy sitting by the tree with a cocktail and watching this. This year I was feeling like shit, but this movie made me forget for a bit. Jimmy Stewart at his best. One of the best movie wives of all time. Another moment in time captured brilliantly by the great Frank Capra.

Nosferatu - 7/10. Very nice cinematography, decent acting (a little over the top from William Dafoe but it kinda mirrors Hopkins over the top performance in Bram Stoker's Dracula).

I have not seen the original nor the remake from the 70s so I can't really comment too much on comparison(s).

*I'd say that it is worth paying for as opposed to waiting to stream it. Definitely one of the better movies I've seen this year.

a bit of brief nudity (boobs) from Lily-Rose was a welcome surprise
