Rashad stated he gets over 235 pounds, with this in mind I rather Rashad Evans not have a fight with Anderson Silva in his first cut to MW if he decides to make the cut, I dont think he will have any of the power he did fighting at LHW, his cardio was never that good either and will suffer more at MW.

Rashad needs to fight a lower level fighter in his first cut to MW to see how the drastic cut affects his performance, fighting Silva in his first cut to MW would not be the best way to do it.

I think Rashad vs Weidman needs to happen first no doubt, that way Rashad would have a legit win at MW ( if he wins ) first instead of jumping right into the mw division fighting for the title bypassing all the other mw contenders. Also Shad would know how much the cut affects his performance.

Do you guys agree it should be Weidman vs Rashad or who do you guys think Rashad should fight first when making his first cut to MW because I really think he will have too many negative factors against him making his first cut to MW.

at this point Anderson should not be considered imo

thoughts?

The media were asking Dana about this in the most recent scrum and he acted like it was ridiculous that Rashad would want to fight at a Catch-weight and not for the belt. That makes me think Rashad wants to fight at catch weight and not for the belt.

Wrong, Ariel asked him yesterday if he would cut to 185 for an Anderson fight and Rashad said "I would do it in a minute."

The only logical path for Rashad is to take at least one warm-up fight at 185 before taking on Silva. He WILL struggle with his first cut, there is no question about it. I'm sure Silva wants to give him an immediate shot though considering Silva ALWAYS tries to take the easy route. I don't understand why Rashad is not demanding a warm-up fight. It will be to his own detriment.

He shouldn't be cutting to 185 if this is true. Silva will tool him in every sense of the word

I honestly dont see rashad-silva happening next. Too much to ask rashad to cut 20 extra lbs for a fight against someone like silva right off the bat.

Its going to be weidman dethroning anderson this july:)

Anyway, AFAIR, he was about 225 pounds when he fought Brad Imes and he wasn't particularly fat. So while 185 is certainly possible, he would probably have to loose some muscle.

and the excuses begin even before the fight took place

BJ Penn got to 198lb before his last camp. I guess that must have meant that he is too big for WW, right TS?

Rashad would finally see what it is like to be a real blackzillian

zing!

Anderson would own Rashad, and make him make that face all over again

Lol, you guys are really crazed about this "excuses" stuff, no?

i never really understand why guys with their extended layoffs dont cut to fight weight at least once then train to see how they perform. maybe some do but ive never heard of it.

yeah its draining and you probably wouldnt want to do it leading up to the fight except for the actual weigh in but it seems logical to know what to expect instead of having that big question mark about yourself especially going into a big fight.

Anderson has been quoted plenty of times that he goes up to 230.

Not much of a weight difference. If Anderson can make MW so can Rashad

This is Rashad around the time he fought Imes. That screams like a fighter who can lose many pounds.

He gets to 235 on a break without training he said. He'll be coming off a 205 fight and will be in training if he decides to take the Silva fight, so the cut shouldn't be that extreme.

When Rashad is 235, he's fat. That is in no way, shape or form his lean mass. With this statement, he's really only stating that he slacks on his diet when he's not in camp.
