Great thread! I like when people actually put a little effort into making threads.

My contribution

I guess you'd call this a arm in rear naked choke?

So I was walking the dog the other night and started a list of rare mma submissions and was wondering if anybody wanted to help me expand/correct it

I'm not including standard versions of things like straight armbars, triangles, anaconda/brabos, guillotines, RNCs, arm triangles or heel hooks. I will include some of the preceding subs if they are applied with an interesting setup like a flying armbar...

I don't really have any criteria for submissions to qualify as rare, except for them not appearing on the list above. Not looking at any numbers/stats to help decide what's what...

these can be subs that might have not actually happened yet in mma competition, but are theoretically possible as outcomes in an mma fight, eg no collar chokes or w/e. Also includes some subs that might not still be legal in modern competition.

I'm not a bjj practitioner btw, as some of you might be able to tell. I just find submissions in general to be fascinating. Please correct me where I inevitably get things wrong

here's what I've got so far, with gifs when I can find em↓

yes sir, we've got that one in the OP

I remember that from back in the day- it was so funny to behold

always left me wondering how legit the double armbar actually is...

something tells me Rickson would scoff at that shit

What the hell is that last one?
that's the good old rape choke. Fight finder has it down as Strangle Choke, lol

In that gif you quoted it was administered by Tom Erikson- one of the most feared men in Pride. Guy was giant and super strong

Legend has it that some fighters had a clause in their contract to not fight him. Dunno how true that was, but

Awesome thread.

It was fun to guess what the fight was going to be before opening the spoiler box, nailed most of them.

Great stuff.

Not to be 'that guy' but the electric chair was not a submission, just a sweep - but overall great stuff

He's a chin to the eye submission for the record (Chirs Haseman vs Elvis) ~3:50

fucking gorgeous

funny how Lytle was such a slugger on the feet but had so much finesse on the mat
I was there, I have a video of my commentary/reaction being part of the crowd, it was awesome
For the standing shoulder crank, here's one that actually ended the fight: Aoki vs Wisniewski
hKTkQY2.gif
That wasn't a shoulder crank it dislocated his elbow FWIW

Your "Real Power Guillotine" is a neck crank.

and then the submission (scream) to Babalu

and one of the funniest 'submissions', imo

Antonio Mckee submitting to STRIKES from Aoki of all people

Yeah? The Dan Miller one?

everyone has it listed as a guillotine

I definitely see the crankage aspect you're talking about, but it looks like a high elbow guillotine to my untrained eye
