and what a fight it was……..Anderson Silva vs Luke Rockhold I was also probably pretty big. I think this one might be bigger though.

Oh brother, I did not. After izzy won this fight it was a huge weight off my shoulders as an izzy fan. Costa being younger than izzy, undefeated and coming off that INSANE war with romero being the only guy to really stand toe to toe With romero like that..... (rob does not count; he got sonned by romero). this was a massive 10/10 quality title defense only a few champions have the opportunity of seizing. An undefeated fighter younger than the champ is going to be a hard time for most champions. Like Merab vs Umar, hughes vs GSP quality win.People legitimately forgot how hyped up the title fight between Adesanya and Costa was. Both men were undefeated. They had been talking shit to each other for months like the rivalry was seething with back-and-forth vitriol. Plus, Paulo was coming off of a fight of the year contender against Yoel Romero
Izzy’s other domination has caused people to forget the buildup and everything that was involved with that particular fight. But I remember Sherdog was on fire heading into it.
When it comes to selling a fight there is nobody better than Chael. Especially after their first fight.Chael isn’t as good as either of these guys though. The level of competitors in this one is very high. I’ll give you Silva vs Henderson. Izzy vs Alex 2 also was huge, I forgot about that one.
I don't remember there being a heap of Buzz for Silva vs Vitor.Silva v sonnen 2
Silva v Vitor
Izzy v Alex
All close to the same hype imo
Okay I'm dumb and I meant Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman 1. Anderson and Luke never fought. At the time Weidman fought Silva, Weidman was still undefeated and Silva was a long-reigning champ.Anderson Silva vs Luke Rockhold I was also probably pretty big. I think this one might be bigger though.
DDP vs Khamzat is a huge fight and the biggest of the year with a lot at stake. If DDP wins he will be in contention with Izzy as the second greatest MW of all time. If Khamzat wins he will be a global megastar on a Khabib-like trajectory.
Where does this rank amongst the biggest MW title fights of all time? I can’t think of a bigger fight tbh.
100%, it was amazing.Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva 1 was arguably bigger.
Rich was a dominant champ at that time and only lost to an unknown fighter called Ryoto Machida who only fought in Japan. Anderson was coming off the destruction of the highly durable Leben and proved that competition was not easier in Japan. It was a very intriguing clash of style and in a way UFC vs Pride
2nd best behind Izzy?
Come on bro. It'll only be a 3rd defense.
I like DDP his fights are fun and exciting but many of his fights are wars where he has trouble.
Plus Izzy is t even #1 by a long shot
Anyways. This is an awesome fight.
Bigger ones ranked would be.
#1 Silva v Hendo unification bout
2 Hendo v Bustamante unofficially the 1st unification bout (both undefeated at MW at the time)
3 Silva Franklin 1 (1st real challenge for Franklin in UFC)
4 Silva v Vitor (Vitor was on an absolute tear)
5 Chris v Luke (clash of UFC/Strikeforce champs)
6 Chris v Machida
7 Silva v Sonnen 1 (cuz of Sonnens trash talk)
All 8 of these were highly anticipated and most were 50/50 before they happened
Edit: Chris v Silva 2 should probably be 2nd or 3rd. The 1st was not anticipated cuz everyone overlooked Chris
100%, it was amazing.
BTW imagine if Machida went straight to MW in the UFC and never had his agreement with Silva. We'd probably have a never-ending rematch after rematch epic of these 2 battling for the MW belt.
Or Andy could have gone to LHW and Lyoto would reign supreme at MW. We already know he'd beat Franklin, Belfort, Sonnen and Hendo (because he did) and I'm 99% sure he'd beat Leben, Lutter, Marquardt, Irvin, Cote, Leites, Maia and Okami with relative ease. I imagine that in that parallel universe Machida is in the GOAT convo like Silva is today due to the longest title reign.
Yes, I'm a huge Machida fan, sue me.![]()
It was a huge fight drawing wise, but With silva a bit past it I'm not sure it has the same kind of luster as dricus vs khamzat. Most people will agree silva was not at his peak.No mention of Weidman vs. Silva 2?
When did this happen? Whittaker literally stood there and banged with Romero across 10 rounds. Romero tried to panic wrestle several times but couldn't get Rob down. Rob literally gave Romero permanent facial damage. But "Rob doesn't count" lol.Costa being younger than izzy, undefeated and coming off that INSANE war with romero being the only guy to really stand toe to toe With romero like that..... (rob does not count; he got sonned by romero).

The guy might feel like steel when hit but clearly it has taken a toll on his body. His eye is drooping. Seriously should think about retiring at his age to prevent further permanent damage.
