Randy Couture (2007) vs. Fedor Emelianenko (2018)

fedor's currently handspeed and punching power would still be difficult for couture to overcome, I would still pick fedor by knockout... though he has shown to gas quite quickly and so it is not unreasonable to say that an 11 year younger pressure fighting wrestler might've presented some real difficulties

From what I've seen Randy still has some good hand speed and stamina, so i'd favour him

Couture would still be 2 years older.

well I meant randy couture being 11 years younger than now rather than 11 years younger than fedor but I know what you mean! the difference in being a pro fighter for 10 years vs. 18 years in this scenario would likely make a real difference to their general physical and mental well being though and so would still personally consider fedor more disadvantaged by his age than couture would be

I think Randy would have wrestlefucked him, but Fedor could just as easily caught him with a bomb or submission so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Randy was a grinder against the fence (and a very good one). Would have been interesting vs Fedors judo/sambo hips/throws (in a cage).

Couture was also more souped up than a Ferrari. But the latest Couture vid proves he still has a few shots left in the tank if ya gnomesaiyan

Yeah I got ya, the fight mileage would be much less.

18 years is not accurate considering that Fedor took 3 years off.

he's not very open in the media about what he gets up to between fights so I don't really know what that means in his particular instance but in that time there might still be in regular quite physical and damaging training, sparring, preparing others for their fights etc, I have to imagine he still lived somewhat of a "fighter" lifestyle in those years

Fighters usually don't do a lot when they don't compete. Which is more disadvantagous than competing.

Combat Sambo adds some mileage also, it looks softer than MMA but most of those amateurs have good judo&wrestling experience and are heavy handed.

Lmao the Randy who beat Gonzaga and Timmah would drop today’s Fedor on his head.

Mileage> Age. Fedor has 3 times the mileage of Handy , who picked up mma in his 30’s. Fedor had been through bloody wars by that age and today he is extremely worn out.

Had they fought in 2007-2008 Fedor would have won, though. Probably by armbar.

Because you argue that Fedor was a better striker. But so were Sylvia and Gonzaga. So was Chuck liddell. Randy knew how to work around that.

Also Fedors these days isnt really fast. And Randy absolutely has a wrestling advantage over Crocop.

Speaking of Crocop... It had zero to do with the cage. He was just a miserable fuck, LOL. Didn't really want the challenge in the UFC, was always grumpy and rightfully got his butt kicked in the UFC.

I think there is more to Crocops issues in the ufc.
He stopped kicking and was acting like a guy with a bad back, walking around all stiff. Old school minded guys like him would still fight for the payday rather than retire, but there was something going on with that guy.

I don't buy the whole cage/ring thing either. I think the rules and location are a bigger adjustment to make. Fighters say that if you are fighting in the east or coming from far east to west, it is wise to stay in the country long enough to get used to being there before your fight or it takes a heavy toll.

I think the Pride guys ran into some of this coming over, just like I think some of the guys from the ufc that hopped over there for a fight here and there had the same issues.

Yes It's an interesting topic that has never really been covered like it should have been... Crocop, Wanderlei, Shogun, even Rampage seemed burned out two years into it and tried to go to Hollywood... Fedor never went there at all.

I think Fedor would've wrecked Randy when they wanted to do the fight 10 years ago, but this is a much closer fight because they're closer in age.

44-year-old Randy Couture who beat Tim Sylvia and Gonzaga vs. 42-year-old Fedor who KO'd washed up Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen in round 1.

Let Fedor use the HGH and TRT Randy used for the Gonzaga fight when he was over 235 then to even things.
Rogan talked about it weeks later which conducted Randy to stop for his next fight ( for info he was 220 the next fight against Lesnar because he couldn't use his supplements ).

The cage has specificities that you can't deny though, when in the clinch, and is much bigger making it harder to corner a grappler for a striker.
Not to mention many former PRIDE guys ( and fighters from others orgs ) commented on the mat.
Let's remember the guy that created that ruleset and environnement was a former high level wrestler that did it to favor fellow wrestlers...

K-1 already wrecked Fedor.
