Rampage vs Forrest revisited

I thought Forrest edged it out when i first saw the fight and had the same feeling when i rewatched it some time later. I can certainly see the argument for Rampage though, via more damaging strikes and such. We can all agree it was a great fight no matter who we deem as the winner.

Good post i agree.

That and Rampage/Henderson are two of my favorite title fights.

You are the problem with MMA judging. Lazy fucking judges who think "eh, close fight give it to the champ purely cause he's the champ". Watch the fight better and this issue doesn't exist.
Thanks for the heads up but I think Rampage did enough to win and I'm perfectly aware that argument from authority is very often flawed but a lot of fighters thought Rampage won as well.

So for me it's not really an issue that Griffin didn't do enough to dethrone the champion, I think Rampage should have won a non-title fight as well.

It is wild to read shit i said 12 fuckin yrs ago.

God I was so right, even back then.

SELF HIGH FIVE

I just checked mmadecision site to see how the judges scored it and… Two of the judges scored rd1 for Griffin? Even though Rampage knocked him down?

<{Joewithit}>

Did he get a knockdown? I haven’t rewatched that in years

forrest won, via leg kicks by themselves. which almost doesn't count.

Rampage lost that fight IMO. He took one whole round off because he was hurt by kicks, just laying on his back doing absolutely nothing.

I liked Rampage from Pride and was shocked that a limited fighter like Forrest beat him, but Rampage had a very off night.

Rampage should have won that title fight... but still, yes I'm a believer that a challenger needs to go and take the belt.

We wouldn't have had that bullshit fight between Carla Esparza vs Rose... Carla is the fucking challenger and felt comfortable to not have ti engage at all the whole fight. And ended up winning the most boring Title fight ever.

If Challengers knew they needed to do well and some, to take a title.....we would have more exciting fights... even from boring fighters.

I unironically have it 4-1 for Rampage. Round 2 is the only round the leg kicks did anything. The rest of the fight for every pitter patter leg kick Forest threw he was eating heavier punches. Such a bad decision.

This fight caused me to boycott Sherdog for many years. I was so mad at the outcome that I just stopped posting. Rampage won that fight, and there was no doubt. It was somewhat close, but the champion should get the benefit of the doubt when it's close. I thought the same when Cejudo got the decision over DJ.

I'm from Memphis, so Rampage was my guy. First UFC live event I ever attended was UFC 71 when he KOed Chuck Liddell. Forrest winning that decision was ridiculous and proven when he lost his next fight against Rashad. Rampage went off the deep end after that and was never the same

Forrest Griffin challenged Rampage Jackson for his UFC LHW title at UFC 86.

Forrest ended up winning a unanimous decision. It was a great fight that was controversial to some who thought Rampage could/should have won. Any many think Forrest rightfully won.

I thought it was the right call, Forrest IMO won the second, third and fith rounds while i gave Rampage the first and 4th rounds. Although the 3rd, 4th and 5th were all close i feel Forrest out paced and out worked Rampage in the 3rd and 5th while Rampage damaged Forrest on the feet and took him down in the 4th. Even though Forrest had a close submission attempt i still think Rampage won that round. (R1 was Rampage because of a knockdown, R2 was Forrest because of crippling leg kicks and top position entire round) Rampage also during the fight was landing a lot of punches that didn't land, a lot of the time Forrest would block them with his arms which is another factor to why i think he won.

So my score card would be 48-47 in favor of Forrest.

R1-Rampage
R2-Forrest
R3-Forrest
R4-Rampage
R5-Forrest

Although i think Forrest clearly should have won the decision i realize some of those rounds were close and can see someone scoring it for Rampage. What i can't see however is those who call this a robbery, this wasn't even close to being a robbery to say that is absurd.

What did you guys think?
Agree. Forrest won a close fight, no matter how much Rampage cried about it later.

Yep, and after Rampage edged Hendo in a close 5-rounder, Anderson destroyed Hendo in 2 rounds for the MW belt. At that point it should've been clear which former Pride fighter had the best future in the UFC.

I challenge anyone saying Forest won to rewatch the fight on mute without Rogan cumming for every baby leg kick and breakdown each exchange and get back to me. There is 0% chance Forest won that fight guys I swear to you. You either are misremembering, don't understand how to score an exchange or are complete retards.

The fact that Rampage went to a “close decision” vs Forrest showed that we was done.
