Rahkmonov kinda sucked

Low IQ post from TS

Wasn't Rahmanovs best performance but the toughness, durability and pressure he showed tonight was important. He's not just skilled but he's tough as nails and can pressure with the best of them. Reminded me of prime Golovkin. Few guys can walk down Neal like Shavkat did tonight, if any.

Stood and struck with one of the best boxers in MMA, not a bad showing

He fights pride full and out toughs guy when he doesn't have to, he has good head movement when he chooses to use it, but he seems more than happy to walk you down while absorbing shots while dishing it out.

He needs to fight smarter and use his range and length and close the distance without standing tall and absorbing shots. He's very economical in his approach yet pressures well and makes his shots count.

I’m a big Shavkat fan but it’s funny seeing the huggers play up Neal. He’s a one dimensional puncher, nothing more.

Khamzat literally wipes the floor with Holland, “Khamzat is overrated, Shavkat is the real killer. Bo beats him ez”

Shavkat goes to life and death with guy that got KOd by Holland, “Shavkat so tough, nobody can walk Neal down like that”

the double standards are wild

Neal is ranked number 7 in the world idk what ur smoking

This thread is so dumb it nearly gave me brain damage trying to read TS post - mods please remove for the safety of our community.

His frame is massive for the division. Very big head, tough guy to knock out. He's probably never been knocked out in his life. Hence why he fights like that.

He did react similar to Golovkin when getting hit, noticed that one. Although he reminds me more of Korean Zombie in some ways

Not only is Neal dangerous AF he was also much bigger. 4 lbs on the scale might as well be 10 in the ring. And at the end, shavkat almost killed him. Literally dropped to the floor leaking.

subpar strinking defense
seems to have a solid chin

He's just entered upper echelon and it's normal to still have some area for improvement unless your name is Jon Jones

Shavkat looked elite, but he didn't look like the next dominant champion. He looked on the level of Gilbert Burns maybe.

On the other hand, I guess he can still get better.

I came out of the fight thinking the guy has Elite offense/striking and chin, coupled with big time areas of opportunity in his head movement/defense and takedowns.

Having poor defense and/or getting hit too much is a bad problem to have.

Geoff Neal isn't a slouch. Only people to beat him in ufc are Thompson and Luque, both clear top 10. Maybe some of us were expecting Shavkat to run him over but clearly he doesn't have an aggressive grappling approach and Geoff Neal is a great boxer. I was pretty drunk when I saw the fight but it got FotN despite Neal missing weight

And yeah Neal missed weight so that's also an obstacle

He can definitely work on some things, none of these fighters are perfect, but he's definitely not hyped. He's one of the most well rounded and complete fighters in the division. The fact he has things to work on just means he hasn't reached his ceiling, and he just beat the #6 guy convincingly. Imo that's pretty fucking good.

That said, yes, throwing a rear hand uppercut as a lead punch is very disheartening. Before you call the man all hype, let's see how he comes back from this fight and if he adjusts his decision making and defense.

Regardless being ranked at WW and a 100% finish rate don't happen by mistake.

He looked off to me tonight in the wrestling, from getting clean trips in the clinch vs Magny and dominating with takedowns to hitting a body lock slam on Odilov, I was surprised how little he could move Neal with takedown attempts.

Standing I was impressed with some aspects and less with others. Super impressed with his nice long quick jab and the way he closes the distance with that step up knee is violent and his clinch is strong..those knees, elbows and Thai clinch control were nice. I do wonder why he doesn't throw leg kicks? Such a great kicker and he goes well to the body and head but never throws a leg kick. His head movement looks to be a work in progress, I hear people saying "he's going to exposed by someone else" but who? Who's a better striker in the top 10 than Neal? Maybe Leon but Leon is a different kind of striker and I think Shavs length and pressure gives him trouble. But still the head movement could be better, he's a little overly willing to give up his range and mix it up in the pocket with a shorter man in Neal too. I don't hate leading with rear uppercuts if you're in tight or if it's a counter to your opponent dropping levels when they throw or feint by the way.

Lastly, this was the first time Shav made it to the 3rd round in the UFC and the 2nd time in his career I believe. It was a crazy fight but he definitely slowed down. You In time come to expect fighters who are undefeated and blowing throw guys to look bad vs their first true test, kinda like Khamzat vs Burns but Shavkat made sure to finish still.

I think it might just turn out that Shavkat is a long guy with great tools from range but that he's naturally more of a pressure fighter. Either way there's so many components to his game that you call really continue to build and improve him.
