Question for WR parents

When my kids were from 3-5 I put a Gizmo tracker around their wrist or tossed it in their backpack. It's a GPS tracker and a phone which can receive and make calls from 2 numbers, mine and my wife's. Now they have cell phones which of course I can track but if given to option to put a chip into say the skin between the thumb and index finger or maybe into the cartilage of the ear or in the skin between the toes of their feet the answer is YES.

I had an experience when my daughter who was about 6 and in first grade and she got off the bus at the wrong stop which was about 4 blocks away. Luckily the mother of one of her friends saw her walking alone and held on to her. Well I'm waiting at the bus stop and my daughter does not get off the bus and I'm freaked out so I check the app and it shows her a few blocks away. I call the gizmo and the mom answers and tells me that she has my kid.

did you have to pay a ransom?

Yeah, where do i sign up to have my kids microchipped like a golden retriever? Plus, I would like to opt for the upgrade that allows me to send out a shock, you know, for their safety.

Just spoof one of their friends on snapchat and boom.

And you have to know the hashtags. There are a couple of dudes over at Wanless Park who sell booze to underage kids via a hashtag and twitter.

I understand their point. The ability to recover your child from a potentially dangerous situation far outweighs the fear of any negative impact a chip may have.

I can only imagine if one of my kids were abducted and I had the ability to find them had I agreed to implant a chip, but at the time, I had chosen not to. That guilt would probably kill a parent.

That being said, I wouldn't do it.

My kids phones have trackers in them which is pretty cool.

There are lot of things you could do as a parent to prevent that situation that you don't do.

Are you serious? At Greer and Fairlawn? Damn.

Imo it should only be accessed if they are in fact missing. And the chip should stop working at the age of 18. Idk if I would do it because its a toss up really.

Yup. Crazy the shit you learn when your kid has friends with older siblings.

Has anyone gone down there to fill the school with upper cuts? I'd assume the cops would be interested to find the guy.

Sorry not Wanless school but Wanless Park, east of Mount Pleasant just north of Lawrence. It has the tennis courts. I assume the dudes hit all kinds of local areas to sell.

lol @ cops getting involved in anything less than a stabbing.

Na, private schools kids be at Granite, Cricket and other such clubs. They don't mix with the plebs.

So the other day, I was talking to a few coworkers who happen to be parents of little kids, and the subject came around to GPS trackers for kids. I then asked if they would be OK with a microchip implant. Both emphatically said yes.. they would immediately microchip their kids. When I expressed my shock at their response, they explained losing their kids is their biggest concern, and a microchip implant would put their minds at ease. The advantage of the chip is that it will be undetectable by a kidnapper because it would be embedded underneath the skin.

Is this a technology that you would take advantage of as a parent?

Not going to read through this whole ridiculous thread to find out if someone already mentioned this but.... There is a Black Mirror episode about this very subject. Not one of the series' best. But decent.
