Question for Cat Folks

I had a cat that rather than put her face down to the bowl to drink, she would dip her paw into the water and then lick the water off her paw. I always wondered why she did that.

Main Coon? They're known to do that.

And TS, if a cats thirsty it will drink a dead animals blood, a sitting bowl of water ain't shit.

Cats, unlike dogs, primarily get their water from their prey. When thirsty, they will drink water. People that feed dry food see their cats drink from a bowl often because their cats are not getting it from their food. Dry food is, for the most part, terrible for them. They much prefer their water to be moving and they're very sensitive to chlorines and chemicals in the water so they'll choose stank gutter water to what we think is clean. Of course, they will adapt to whatever is available but most people have no clue what cats actually prefer or what is healthy for them

Dude cats will drink out of toilets and Christmas tree stands, out of puddles etc. They're not picky.

Jesus man this is why I dont like cat people, they are crazy.

yeah, cats will drink from anything
tho they do prefer running water. if you get a cat a fountain dish theyll drink from it a lot more than the others (which is good for the cat to drink a lot, especially if you feed them dry food). it also keeps the water cold and it doesnt sit there getting nasty . . . i mean should be changing it throughout the day to avoid that, but some ppl are lazy.

all this tbh
dry food also dehydrates cats . . . even "good" dry food isnt as good as wet canned food
also good to get a fountain dish that also has a filter in it, so it will filter out some of the nasty shit from tap water

My cat will touch the water with his paw and make it move before drinking it. Also, he prefers to drink from a glass over a bowl. I think that's just because he sees us do it, and knows he isn't supposed to.

i have two cats. one of them refuses to drink from still water. the other cat drinks out the dog bowl when he sees my dog go for water. she likes to go up to him as hes about to drink and slap him in the head then drink his water. i also i have a theory she is trying to suffocate me in my sleep

One of ours does that, out of the turtle tank.

I've never seen my twenty year old cat drink from her bowl, but I've caught her drinking out of my glass when I've left it unattended.

The few times I caught her she's jumped from the table and hid like she felt she was stealing my water.

Once upon a time vets recommended dry over wet. I fed my cats Science Diet for years and one died of liver failure. The vet told me I should be feeding my cats wet food and I was pretty frustrated. In early days I fed them wet and changed to dry on a vet's recommendation.

My cats drink from bowls but they do like running water and will jump on the counter sometimes when I'm using the sink. I did find out that putting the water bowl right next to their food isn't ideal so I have multiple water bowls placed in the house, separate from their food. My boy Sebastian (rip) used to constantly dump the water out of his bowl but he stopped doing that once I moved the bowl to a different area away from the food dishes. Sometimes my cats will stick their paw in the water and splash it around a bit.

My father-in-law has one of those bowl that has a faucet at the top and so the water keeps flowing and he is the only person I know IRl that has a cat.

Yeah, and a lot of vet's will still recommend cat's be put on dry food actually. Has to do with that whole tie between vets and cat food brands.

Sorry about your kitty ):
That would piss me off so bad, to know you were doing the good thing for your cat but changed it because you thought somebody that knew better was putting you on the right path for their health /: *sigh*

prolly has a cord
but most of these products wont show the cord in the promotional photos lol
guess it looks bad xD
also usually have a little motor thing inside of them

cats kidneys are strong enough to desalinate and survive off of ocean water, i dont think they need to worry aobut this. also my cats prefer the dishes inthe sink and toilet to their water bowl sometimes, so do with that what you like.
