Social Question about shark attacks.

Here a diver is in murky waters and the shark bumps into him from the side and scares the shit out of the guy but whats worse is the guy yells and stands his ground to keep an eye on where the shark is and the shark turns and comes right at him! holy fuckin shit.

Who even wants to go into murky ass water like this???

Yeah fuck that

It usually turns out bad no matter how long you've worked with wild predatory animals.

Humans get attacked by dogs all the time and it's a species that's evolved to be around us and have been selectively bred.

Sharks are animals that are concerned with survival first and foremost, meaning they aren't your friends to cuddle with, but it also doesn't mean they're going to kill people for no reason just because it feels like it. Shark attacks are also more rare than people think.

Do the people that have encounters with them, just very lucky?
Or they can develop afective ties with people and other animals?
It's still a shark and a wild animal, I guess you can interact with them and get away with it like with any other wild animal but you never know when it might snap. A long time ago I got to hand feed two tiger sharks from a cage in an aquarium and then move around with them freely after they were fed. The instructor there explained that we had to remember that they were after all still animals, what signs to look for that they were going to attack etc. He had been working with them for 5 years and still they bit his ass one time when he wasn't paying attention to what they were doing.

They didn't really try to kill him but he had to have about 100 stitches, he said that it was probably more like a game of tag for them.

This guy consistently post drone footage of great whites along the California coast. Often times they are so close to swimmers/surfers with out them knowing.

Yeah recently these drone footages are exposing that we have a lot more close encounters with sharks than what was previously thought

Hard to say but I will say that people definitely like to project their own human emotions onto animals.

It's probably something along the lines of the scuba diver isn't hurting the shark, the shark likes the way it feels when it gets pet and the shark isn't hungry enough to eat the diver.
This is definitely true. I was researching leopard geckos to get as a pet and some peopel are ridiculou in that they project what we humans prefer onto reptiles and fish. Like some animals like to be alone but we people want to give them a "buddy" to play with. Or they'll see geckos "cuddling" when in reality they are fighting for hte best spot for warmth/sun/etc. I mean sure animals can get used to humans a bit but they get more used to a large creature approaching to give them food. They don't bond with humans.

OBviously mammals are very different.

Sharks attacks are pretty rare. We have Fernando de Noronha here in Brazil, you can swimming with tiger sharks, and i dont think theres a single attack registered. But the waters are pretty clear.

This is why it pains me to see Orcas in captivity. They're incredibly intelligent mammals in the dolphin family, yet some are stacked up in a fucking bathtub for human entertainment. Killer whales leave us be in the wild, they have killed in captivity, understandably.

I mean this video of Ken Peters is horrifying. Orcas should be in the ocean. Not swimming pools.
