Yes you read the title right. Ok here it goes

I work in Las Vegas at a big hotel on the strip. This time of year we always get a huge amount of Japanese guests. (Lovely people). For some reason they just love to over flow our tubs and flood out the rooms. They just leave them running and walk away. Does anyone have insight as to why this may be? Do their tubs function differently or something?

I got nothing. That’s something only a full blown retard would do.

its intentional on their part, they want to flood everything so its underwater, i believe it goes back to Pearl Harbor and unfinished business

To piss you and the staff off. Is it cold in Las Vegas? Is the hotel running their heaters? If so, it is most likely to increase the humidity in the room. They heard that Las Vegas is in the desert, so they want to make sure they don't run out of water.

things happen when you play rough

Dont your tubs have the gasket at the top to let the water flow into drain?

That actually might make sense

I lived in Japan for a couple of years, so I can offer some insight into this curious problem. The Japanese who do this believe that the entire bathroom is waterproof, as is the case in Japan. Modern Japanese bathrooms are made of waterproof materials, with all floor surfaces sloped so water runs off to a single floor drain. So, the occasional Japanese person who is new to the US believes that if the tub overflows it's no problem, that the overflow will just go down a drain, and that the rest of the bathroom is not only waterproof but sealed in from the next room....in other words, watertight. Their bathrooms are "wet rooms"....anything can get soaked and it's no problem.

Probably a good idea to leave instructions in your bathrooms in Japanese on the workings of an American-style bathroom, or inform them beforehand somehow of the do's and especially the do not's.

Yes but they only keep up for so long. Plus a lot of our drains aren' 100%

They try to commit suicide by drowning must be, and then they change their minds, but are so shocked they just leave right away.

I haven't been to Japan specifically, but bathrooms in Asia are constructed differently than in the US. They usually have a drain in the bathroom floor for excess water (which is a good idea).

Thanks for the answer. This has been bothering me for years

There you go. That makes sense. That's why they lost the war. Kind of runs along the Pearl Harbor attack logic. :) ...and I thought the Japanese were smart.

Thought this thread was going to be about communal bathing. Families bathing together is also common.

This guy knows his history.

It's in case Godzilla pops round and needs a place to sleep.
