Hey guys got a question for you that I've been pondering. So over the years I have slowly been gaining weight. In camp I'm about 198-200 lbs and I fight at 185. How detrimental do you think it would be to my speed, conditioning and explosiveness if I packed on another 15 or so lbs and fought at 205? How possible would it be to keep my speed and explosiveness?

How tall are you? And why do you want to make the change? And what does your coach think?

Generally, going up a weight class is a bad idea.

Well I'm 5'10 but I got a long ass reach. Honestly I just want to pack on weight. My coach doesn't care to much either way. I'm a pretty thick dude and I haven't been weight training for very long. I won't stay 185 forever.

BLKAH BLAH BLAH I'm a pretty thick dude BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Your last thread about weight cutting you mentioned being small for a middleweight, why not lean bulk to a bit more to 205 and be a full sized middle weight? 10lbs over light-heavy is a bit small as well. Also aren't most of the the guys there going to be taller taller than you? (6-6'5)

Building muscle takes time, I think for regular folks who aren't using drugs, around 10lbs of lean muscle a year is pretty normal. Maybe 15lbs if you're really new to it and have great genetics.

Ya I will definitely be shorter I mean the ultimate goal would be at 220-225 as of right now I'm an amateur and at 215 would be decent sized. My last cut was 15lbs to make 185.

Thats going to take time to get to that weight (lean with low fat). If the local circuit guys aren't cutting too much (below 15) and your coach is fine with it, then its all good. Who knows, maybe you'll do well, if not, then you'll know what to do.
Did you manage to find a way to cut decently? I remember in the thread you mentioned about having gas tank issues from the cut.

Also, you can still take middleweight fights in between your bulk, its not like its off limits when you're bulking.

Oh ya find a great cut. My last fight was my best cut yet! And that's the plan keep taking fights at mw and catch weight muay thai fights.

So the other question is well I be able to keep my speed and explosiveness after putting on that much weight?

Right, why don't u put on the weight and see.. If you feel you're losing too much speed then put the cakes down and drop back down to middleweight. You're asking questions that people can't really answer.
When I was fighting, I had to cut to middle weight because at 5'9 I would have been at a disadvantage with my height. I was even shorter than every guy I fought at 84kg. And I cut from 96kg for one of my fights. Why do you feel the need to go heavier? If you're winning fights at middleweight then stay there. Or If you're already 200lbs in camp and you feel quick then don't cut weight just fight at that body weight and see how you get on because you're already walking around at light heavy.

I know what your problem is.. You want to put on more muscle because you want to look the part. You're going to be fighting lads who are cutting down from heavy, and despite you thinking that you're 'thick' or whatever, those lads will out muscle you and out reach your short ass. Going up in weight will be a bad move for you. Just my opinion.

It depends, I'd say if you're still training consistent and not giving up training for the strength training sessions then you should be able to maintain your speed, flexibility, etc. I've been on a lean bulk since mid-November; So far speed and conditioning is the same, strength has shot up through the roof. I'm near 20lbs heavier, but to be fair I'm not as lean, packing on fat will happen regardless, you're going on a surplus it can't be avoided, but it can be minimized.
But thats just me, so its not like this was done from a wide pool of candidates. Overall this is something you'll have to find out yourself like Flash_Monsta said in the post above.

Honestly you pretty much hit the nail on the head. That never ending battle of always wanting to be biggerbut be successful at fighting. I guess I just need to get my cut down better that way I can have a little bit of both.

How lean are you? You're mentioned cutting 15lbs but could you easily diet off another 5lbs? Or is your diet already on point?

I know this because I was exactly the same, I didn't want to let go of whatever muscle I had and I wanted to look intimidating across the cage. We all know that the heavily muscled guys don't necessarily make the best fighters, just train hard and let your physique take care of itself.

We've all been there, the story of every guy's life over 16

My diet is really on point I get pretty fucking lean and idk if it would even benefit me to lose the last bit that I had left. I just need to test my new cut a little more and see what is actually possible to drop and not. I did 13lbs this last cut and that was super easy I mean I was still eating carbs. If I can do 20-25 like the pros I would be able to stay in 185 and be semi content haha.
