Quebec votes for first conservative majority in 50 years

Don't Kathy Newman me.

Just as rights come with responsibilities, freedoms come with boundaries. Those boundaries usually end where others' begin.

Azriel, a devout jew always wears his yarmulka has a job opportunity at a mosque. They will only give him the contract if he doesn't display his faith while at work. Is this a case where religious freedom is being repressed, or a case of establishing boundaries?

I think it's a case of focusing on the trivial things. Religious symbols and clothing, unless we're talking full on burkas where identity concealment is an actual issue, are not why religions are damaging.

I really hope white folks can curb all this anti white hate before it's too late.

We already know what whitey is capable of when hes pushed too far...

So does this mean there is still hope for Canada or just hope for Quebec to break away? Only time will tell.

My point is that you are a visitor and cannot relate to that stance on language.

If for example I moved to Ireland, I might find their struggle to keep gaelic alive ridiculous, but it wouldn't be my business to comment.

I don't see how that is different from your position on Québec language topics.
This argument is disingenuous and applies the logic that only Quebec people understand the french language in Canada. French isn't disappearing. It is not going to die out.

The French language has dominated regions of the Maritimes where I was born(Bathurst/Tracadie) and despite us doing absolutely nothing to promote "keeping french alive" and minimizing english the way Quebec does, is staying as predominantly french as Quebec.

The treasonous government party Bloc Quebecois has basically brainwashed you with a Nationalistic stance on something that is truly a non issue.

From a conqueror's POV you are right.

When you are a conquered people, you see it from another angle.
A conquered people?

You are batshit and have rewritten history. The French speaking community WILLINGLY entered and became one with the rest of us. The french leaders saw an opportunity to exert great political control over the french speaking population and line their pockets by playing up on their french Nationalism and have done so to this day. But they wanted additional railroads, security of the rest of the country coming to their defense if the USA invaded and so yes, they willingly entered into a pact to become this country.

Ironic considering what a fucking noise Quebec made all those years ago over Catholic religion being marginalized and fighting to be able to show those little symbols and clothing.

but whoops, that only applies to religions they want

Yea, look man, I kinda get it. I've lived here long enough (7 years) to know that culturally, Quebec might as well be a different country, which you couldn't say for virtually any other province. But think of this scenario: there is a large number of Canadians who don't stay in their province of birth, and many will move around the whole country throughout their lives (I've lived in 4 already). The notion that a Canadian from e.g. Nova Scotia shouldn't have a say (to the small extent that applies to the individual anyway) in what goes on in Manitoba, if he's a tax paying resident there, is a little ridiculous. He's not a guest. He didn't have to fill out a visa application or go through any borders to live in Manitoba. But where I sort of see your point, is that the culture in NS and Manitoba isn't that much different, whereas the culture in Quebec vs the rest of Canada obviously is.

I recognize the right of the Francophones to protect their culture, it would be hypocritical not to since I recognize Canadians' rights to protect our culture. Let's remember though that this all started with my barb on the PQ, when I described them as just a tiny bit fascist. Do you think they went a bit overboard last time they were in power? We all remember pasta gate and the controversy of clerks in downtown Montreal greeting customers with 'Hi/Bonjour' instead of 'Bonjour/Hi'. And more specifically what pissed me off about that more than anything, is that we already pay the highest taxes in Canada, and I don't believe this is a good or even necessary use of resources. You're born here, you know as well as I do that once you get outside of Montreal a bit, the French language is very much alive and well. Montreal is always going to more English than any other place in Quebec by virtue of being a world city and its multiculturalism, which you won't find to the same degree anywhere outside of Montreal.

I agree that it's not a very important issue but it flies in the face of consistency. Appearance is the only thing we have to go on upon first meeting someone after all.

Just to be clear - I'm only talking about representatives of a secular government appearing secular during working hours. Not during off hours.

So, you are essentially against religious freedom. I'd have more respect for you if you were simply a racist.

In Canada, like almost anywhere else that isn't a shithole, ideas are already protected, ie you can think and believe whatever you want, no matter how batshit insane it is. You can even try to tell other people about it, as long as you stay within boundaries of not inciting violence. Why do we need a separate category specifically for religion which actually supersedes the protection of ideas and free speech?

Ok. That does seem like a double standard. Are you trying to randomly argue something?

I have two questions for Canadians on this thread. Could a Donald Trump ever get elected PM of Canada? Could a judge like Kavanaugh ever get appointed to the bench in Canada/Quebec?

If that is your analysis of the state of the French language in Canada (in a nutshell that the survival of the French language is a non issue) then I really wonder on what planet you live.

Either that or you take me for an idiot.

Or you are yourself completely braiwashed by anti-Québec, federalist propaganda.

Oh and BTW stop with the "treasonous" shit or I'll start with the "federal occupant" and I'll also start throwing in the Acadian Genocide for good measure.

Please recalibrate your arguments if you are in any way interested in an intelligent exchange.

Otherwise I can just tell you to eat shit and go fuck your whore anglo mother right away as I don't have time to waste.

WTF are you talking about. You don't think New France was conquered by the English? You don't think Canada was a British colony for the longuest part of its history?

Why am I even discussing with you? You fucking troll.

You won't catch me again.

And here you are again, mixing up ultra-Catholic pre 60's Québec with today.

Seriously, your posts are worthless and you have disqualified yourself from this discussion. Don't bother responding.

Baby steps. It makes sense that representatives of a secular government appear secular while on the job. I haven't seen a decent argument against this anywhere. Freedom of religion does not factor into it as the flipside is freedom from religion imo. It'll come.

That supposed "liberals" argue against this legit confuses me.
So if no freedom of Religion , this includes the :eek::eek::eek:phile ring too right? Sorry the Catholic church

This means no crosses on chains at work , nothing about god , no prayers in school , or nuns wearing their veils while teaching small children ! Cuz if this is the case I am down too! But not if you right wing nut ball christians think , it's okay for you to do it , but no one else lol

We may disagree but thank you for taking the time to write an intelligent post.

I think this illustrates the core of the issue : to you, it is perfectly normal as a Canadian to have a say in any Canadian province where one might live. Your stance is perfectly fine form a logical point of view, as a Canadian.

To me, however, Canada is forced on Québec and so are Canadians from other provinces. And so are foreigners who don't care about the French language. I will accept foreigners with my arms wide open if they decide to contribute to Québécois society. One prerequisite for the latter is to defend the French language in Québec.

So you see, this is nothing personal against you or any non-French-speaking foreigner but you guys are not welcome and ideally should leave. Your presence collides with the project.
