If i were going for about 6 weeks, what kind of visa would I need? I heard you automatically get a 30 day visa when you go, but I'd probably exceed that. If I don't want to do a border run, how can i get a longer (60 day perhaps?) visa? How much would this cost and how much would it take me to get it? Thanks for the help.

Would 10 000 baht be enough to pay for food each month??

I'm just putting together a mini budget so i have a ballpark number i need to save for, for a 3 month training holiday at tiger muay thai.

I plan on buying bulk chicken and rice, also grain cereal like oats plus milk. Also tuna and whole grain bread as that'll be my main diet. I'm not too sure about protein supplements though cause i hear they are starting to confiscate those as you enter the country.

Also if anyone has any idea how much a microwave and a hotplate cost that'd be great aswell.

You are better off just buying the food. You not only need to consider the microwave and hot plate but the electricity.

10000 is sufficient for food for me.

P DAWG!!! you dont answer private messages. when you coming back? did you fight?

what kind of jobs do they have for forang? is it hard for farang to get jobs in Thailand?

most jobs will require you to speak thai.
for eg, Hard for a waiter to take an order if you don't speak thai.
do a tesol coarse and teach english.

dont you have to have a college degree to teach english?? or can you get by on just a tesol course?

there are jobs for people without a degree, some need degree and tesol some just need tesol.

It's totally not worth the time buying and cooking your own food. Food at resturants is super cheap, i don't even know if it would be any cheaper buying your own. The most i've paid for food is 30 baht, usually it's 20 or 25. I rarely spend more than 150 baht a day on food.

haha... most thais i talked to live off around 10 k baht per month, so if youve got that much skrilla just for food you should be fine

It's not for expenses purposes it's mainly cause i like to follow a strict diet and know exactly how many calories i'm eating. I do the whole 5 - 6 meals a day with controlled portions. A guy my size who's extra active (i'll be doing two group plus 1 private session plus roadwork 5 days a week while i'm over there) needs about 2900 calories to maintain weight and around 2300 to lose weight. So i'll prefer just buying me own stuff and putting them into portions so i know exactly how much i'm eating.

On weekends i'll let loose as they'll be my cheat days but the main reason i'm going to thailand is to learn muay thai and MMA so i get a good foundation before i start fighting in the amateurs then hopefully pro.

I just got back from Bangkok and Koh samui on Friday. It was more of a party mission, so I only trained once, but to everybody wondering what the situation is with girls: DON'T WORRY ABOUT HOOKERS, THERE'S PLENTY OF EURO AND AUSSIE BACK PACKER GIRLS THAT WERE MORE THAN EAGER TO DRINK ALL NIGHT AND MEET A GUY. I'VE NEVER HAD AN EASIER TIME MEETING WOMEN IN MY LIFE.

I always thought it'd be quite easy to hook up with fellow tourists cause they'd be looking for the same thing. I've got a thing for swedish chicks so hopefully there'll be a fair few there lol

I know it sounds cheesy, but go to the full moon party on Koh Phangan and Kao San road in Bangkok, sooo many girls. The girls were so friendly too, I'm from LA, I wasn't used to it.
The only problem is the nights go real late out there, so you're nt gonna train the next day. My suggestion is: party the 1st couple nights then train, then party again at the end. I thought I could go back and forth, but with the heat and humidity it's just not possible.

Khao San Road sucks. Hippys bug the hell out of me. Lower Sukhumvit is much better.
