Now, that's the life. I thoroughly intend on looking that relaxed and happy in Thailand, this fall.

the reason for the dogs is buddhism, people will generally kill for food only.
very few thais eat dog.
i had a friend who would always try to fight every dog he saw when we were drunk,he even chased one into a crowded restaurant and was in full fighting stance screaming come on bitch.
he had real issues with dogs, would fight them if they didnt run, even the biggest dogs, never forget that guy.

Last year my wife and I stayed at a resort in the jungle and the resort dog took to my wife very well. It would follow her everywhere and chase off the monkeys if they cam close. It would sleep outside of our door every night. Very good dog. I would give it beef jerky and it acted like it was the best thing ever.

Nice.

I befriended a dog on Karon beach a couple years ago, he was the coolest dog ever. He was playful and friendly, but wasn't annoying, and left us alone when we were just chilling, he just hung nearby, waiting for us to go somewhere or do something.

I'm from Thailand and I never had any problems with the dogs. My beef is with the damn monkeys. I fucking hate them.

monkeys scare me,one ripped off my wifes bottle of coke.
scared the shit out of her.

Hmm..cool..but do you have any great idea on how to fight off dogs? jab their eyes?

Should farangs wai?

Ok, here is my Thai culture question. Should farangs wai? I know western cultures generally shake hands when greeting, and Thais perform a wai. And, I believe the height of the hands for the wai is dependant upon the social hiearchy of the person being greeted. The hands should be at a level near or above the top of the head for someone at the top of society and who is well respected, about level with the the top of the bridge of the nose for someone higher than you, and chin level for equals. Children are greeted with smiles, and "undesirables" are not given a wai.

However, I heard that because farangs are not Thai, they are not expected to wai and that it is actually acceptable if they do not. And, sometimes farangs can look foolish, or even create a "situation" by performing a wai in an incorrect social manner. Can someone who is Thai, or well versed in the Thai culture, jump in here and help me out? Thanks.

i think farang should wai,but many really overdo it and it can make thai's feel a little awkward.
if someone is older,do it first, same age or younger don't worry unless they do it first.
if someone is serving you in a shop no need, for eg,you enter a restaurant and approach the counter,no need to wai.
i notice some farang will wai a khru every time they see him, they will wai in the morning,he may go for a piss and they will wai again when he returns,he may go to the shop for a pack of cigerettes and they wai again when he walks past.
once in the morning is fine.
would you shake your trainers hand 20 times a day.

Hi, does anyone have any experience training at the fairtex camp in pattaya?

I`ve read through the thread and can`t find any posts on it.

Also if you trained there is it worth staying at the camp or are there cheaper hotels of the same or better standard nearby?

On the website it says it`s 1000bht to stay in a standard room in the sports wing which looks pretty good and seems like a very reasonable price.

Does anyone know the price to train there? Looking to go for 2 weeks so do you pay by class or just a lump sum at the start for the 2 weeks training?

I trained at Fairtex Pattaya in 2007. The hotel next door to the left when facing the front entrance was nice and olny cost 600 baht a night. The training was 800 baht for two sessions.

I co-sign with this.

I really appreciate the help, and clarification. As a guest in another culture, I want to be sure to be friendly and polite, without overstepping my boundries.

Khupkun. < I think I spelled that correctly.

one thing we dont like, even if you are not buddhist you can pay respects to our monks.
wai when you pass, and if you walk pat a monk crouch down as you pass, its just a nice gesture of respect.

Does Thailand offer any amateur fights opportunities? Or is it all professional rules?

Can I get in the country with a one-way ticket? I have a one year ED visa and its impossible to find a return flight a year from now, I can only book so far in advance.

You probably won't have problems getting into Thailand without the ticket, but you'll probably have problems convincing an airline to let you onto a plane to Thailand without a ticket onward, since they are the ones liable for repatriating you if Thai immigrations decides to make a fuss.

The best route for you would be to buy a one-way fully refundable ticket from Bangkok to Singapore/KL/Hong Kong for about a month after your arrival. Use that to ensure that you don't have problems with either the Thai authorities or the airlines, and get a full refund on the ticket by calling in to cancel the ticket once you reach Thailand.

I've seen some coaches and trainers set up an unofficial amateur bout if you request it. But remember that 99% of Thais fight because they have to (pay check) and not because they want to (leisure/hobby/recreation). So an amateur bout won't really put money in the pockets of Thai fighters. The county side is were you should look due to high gambling, but it's not easy for tourists to get around in the boonies.

Would a gym let you fight for them if you just trained with them for two weeks?

I was planning on splitting my time there between Keatkhamtorn (2 weeks) and Sor. Vorapin Gym 2 (2 weeks).

Thanks!

only the camp can answer that
