PWD 406*: Meltzer Makes Many "Manly" Marks Mad

Hardly surprising, that was a very forgettable 'Mania overall.

bret vs yoko at WM X is too low imo.

Oh yeah? Where would you put that one? I don't care for that match at all, really, was a very slow and uninteresting match, I feel.

More ass!

Reigns will not headline another Mania. That would be 3 in a row. IIRC only Cena, Rock and Hogan have done that.

And he got booed out of the building while dastardly heels got cheered both times. At the risk of sounding repetitive, he doesn't deserve to be hung out to dry like that again.

You're right, I forgot about 4. And yeah, 9 is a touchy one.

Rock also headlined 28 and 29, no?

Edit: HHH has a fair few Mania main events, too.

16, 18, 20, 22, 25 and 32.

If Hogan headlined 9, then Rollins headlines 31.

How many PPVs had unannounced headline matches, I wonder.

Bash At The Beach 2000 is one off the top of my head, with the Booker/Jarrett match in the wake of the whole Jarrett/Hogan/Russo debacle.

Let the debating begin:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headliner_(performances)

A headliner is the main act in a music, theatre, or comedy performance. Generally, the headliner is the final act in a performance, preceded by the opening act(s).

In ticket sales, the name of the headlining act will generally be the only name or most prominent name on the ticket or advertising vehicle.

In music, the headliner often reserves sole permissions to the name of the tour. Thus, tour names often reflect the name of the latest album or a popular song from the latest album of the headliner. Additionally, the headliner is often the most famous or prominent act in the performance.

In Neo-Burlesque headliners are performers with high reputations whose inclusion in a performance will help to attract a good audience.[1]

I liked the match but the story is what made it. Bret had already wrestled a solid match against his own brother earlier that night, underdog/ david vs goliath, revenge for the previous loss at WM 9, and the locker room coming out to celebrate.

I missed Edge and Bam Bam, which was weird because I got LT (was thinking he wrestled Bundy for some reason - had I looked and seen Bundy listed with 1, maybe I would have realized).

I think it would have been better if Yokozuna hadn't already wrestled Luger. I still don't get that booking, lol. Just have Bret and Luger wrestle then have the winner face Yokozuna, surely!?

I know we wouldn't have gotten Bret/Owen, but still.

Also, state of your locker room in 1994! Tatanka, 1-2-3 Kid and fucking Sparky Plugg.

I think it makes sense because by co-winning the Rumble each guy earned a title shot, not an extra match to earn a title shot. Not saying it was good booking, but I do see the thought process behind it.

I was taking my first break from wrestling at this point so I didn't see this until years later. That Bret/Owen match is so good. Owen carrying his clunky brother once again :)

Hard times dadeh

I know it's up for debate, but I consider each WM to have only one true main event, and it's the match that goes on last (on the broadcast, at least, if there was some dark match after the main event in the early days, I wouldn't count that). So WM 18, as awesome as Hogan/Rock was, I don't consider it the main event (Trips/Jericho was). WM 8, I don't consider Savage/Flair as the main event, Hogan/Sid was. That's just my opinion, I'm sure others disagree.

Unrelated: I make fucking great scrambled eggs.

the drama of bret reluctantly wrestling (and losing to) owen is a better story than bret vs luger. owen's promos leading up to WMX had you legit thinking that he hated Bret. WM X would have been fine with Luger off the card. Mr. Fuji could easily have made the stipulation 'in orduh to face myyyyyyyyyy Yokozuna, you must first face your bluthuh!'

That WM list was surprising. Usually on those lists Hogan/Bundy is considered one of the worst, and they have it as 6th best. Interesting.

Gawd... how did you guys get talking about this again?
