I thought Bischoff didn't pay Lex much, that's why he signed him? Basically got him for a fraction of a fraction as Bischoff put it, that first contract back.
Eric's gone on record as saying he didn't want him back and only had the sit-down because Sting asked him. He low-balled Lex with a one-year, shit-money contract and Lex said yeah. Eric saw that Lex was willing to bet on himself to turn that shit up and became a fan.

That tracks. The interviews I've seen from Lex he's never came off super materialistic trying to squeeze every last dime out of people. I was surprised by that. I stereotyped him as a money and miles guy.

Dang it. I forgot all about this!

Someone get me a Steel Reserve!

I’ll never forgive Sony for losing that 10 year dynasty I had in NCAA 12!

Lex was the gym guy equivalent of the $400,000 champion

“As long as he got to hit chest every morning, he didn’t care.”

It also probably helped he got special treatment his whole life for his physical and athletic gifts. When you have been treated well your whole life many people tend to brush off any kind of negative treatment as an anomaly.

In his book, Bischoff says Luger was making either 300 or 350 thousands of dollars annually in the WWF so he offered Lex exactly half that

Maybe he changed his outlook later but he was definitely that materialistic guy that looked down on the rasslin business in the 80's, thats why he had so much heat in the locker room in Florida and JCP, he was only doing this for the money and he made no secret of it

I guess the business eventually got into his blood, as is known to happen

I think so. The interviews Ive watched were from the 90's. He probably got humbled a bit. But, yeah, thats why I was surprised by his attitude. I don't know much about 80s wrestling but I felt he was that dude that was all about money especially coming from the NFL.

Yea, supposedly he had a really bad attitude like he was embarrassed to be in the rasslin bidness for those first several years, plus he was booked as a main eventer from the very first days, they put the Southern Title on him in Florida only 20 days after he debuted and then in JCP he was the first guy given a guaranteed contract, back then everyone was still paid based on the house they drew that night, so that obviously drew a lot of resentment from the old timers that spent years paying their dues for peanuts

So the fact that everyone in the locker room hated him probably made him act like more of an asshole in return

He seems like a completely changed guy now, though, life has a way of doing that to ya LoL

When he went on that hearts and minds tour seeing every corner of this great nation and meeting her people from all walks of life, it humbled him

The weight of the free world was on his shoulders!

He always seemed to get pushed wherever he went. I liked him a lot as a kid. He was jacked and slammed that big nasty Jap. You think he had the talent to get all the pushes he did? He did have some kind of intangible that made him special.

He had something for sure. He wasn’t this larger than life character or a great promo but there was some presence to him beyond the physique.

Call me crazy but I think there’s something to him selling so much. Even as this jacked up body guy, I can still remember those “OAHH!”’s in the corner when he was getting wailed on.

Got the face over when he was a heel, made him seem vulnerable as a face.
