Was surprised to see Hogan mention Inoki and Ali. It's funny hearing his normal voice and then he jumps right back into promo mode.

I never heard of this either but I do know the WWF was politicking for a Hogan-Tyson match at one point, i think it was in the 80's, though

It never went anywhere because obviously Tyson wouldve had to lose to The Hulkster

I remember Bruce saying that this was supposed to be Tyson and it was going to lead to more but it was the week he lost so they had to scramble and get Buster instead. So a year later they were still trying to get Tyson back evidently.

Yea, Tyson had been already announced on tv as being the special referee for this show but then they quickly pivoted to Buster

I dont know what the WWF plans were but there were a lot of Tyson haters out there too, as is always gonna be the case with someone that massively famous, a lot of the old time boxing fans hated this new kid which is why the Tyson-Spinks fight was so huge at the time, it was the old guard vs this hot new upstart, they sold Michael Spinks on the legend of his brother Leon and it captivated the nation as all these old timers hung their hopes and memories of the good old days on the younger Spinks, it was great carny marketing that ended with poor Leon looking like he was terrified for his life in the staredown before he got crushed in 91 seconds

Basically the exact same model Jake Paul uses twice a year now days LoL

But I digress

Maybe Vince and the MSG crew, who were obviously way more heavily involved in the boxing world back then, figured they could tap into that Tyson hate and make it a good old fashioned "Great White Hope" storyline

We were already introduced to Gorilla Position, the writers room, the production truck all the way back in 99 with Beyond the Mat and all those A&E docs hell even Bret Harts doc showed Pat Patterson laying out the finish for the Canadian Stampede Mainevent.

I don't know man, that guy was supposed to be huge for the team, him and Maxx were gonna just absolutely harass QB's. They got him for 5 games last year and it's been a complete shit show since like every other big name free agent they sign. Apparently on top of this "weird incident" the guy has just flat out refused to rehab his foot that got injured a year ago. Supposedly him not rehabbing it properly after his surgery last year made it so he needed another surgery again. He has several different doctors telling him it needs surgery again because he fucked it up from not rehabbing it, and he's refusing the surgery and started posting IG videos of him dancing without his walking boot on in the days leading to his release.

Guy was supposedly a "high character leader" when the Raiders signed him too lol
