That was a little off for me too. Bruce was basically just Batman without the mask, even in public. The entire point is that they’re the two polar opposite sides of his mind

The way I saw it was Bruce is a young guy in this universe. In the opening monologue he talks about 2 years of nights turning him into a nocturnal animal. To me, this version is a young Batman/Bruce. Mid to late 20's about. So we can assume he's only been doing the Batman thing for 2 years and we can probably assume he started that because his parents were brutally murdered let's say within the past 3 years. That has to have an effect on someone. Let's be honest most dudes are pretty emotional whether they want to admit it or not in there 20s for far less. I can understand traditionally this may not sit well with Batman fans but I appreciate the realness.

I also think if there are sequels we will see growth in the character. We already saw some from the beginning of the movie to the end if you compare Batman's monologues.
