that makes me think this thread is definitely missing some Shelter

Got so dunk with the Goober Patrol dudes in Nottingham. They were such a party band.

And those hopeless VHSes were the absolute business.

Here's the promo for the Fat Wreck movie

1 minute in they play a bootleg of Propagandhi playing under a bridge in California from 1994... I have that bootleg on VHS. Didn't expect to see in in there.

They finally say Fat Mike's last name in the documentary, "Burkett"

I'm looking forward to reading NOFX's book, I just saw that Greg Graffin wrote a couple books also, nice. And the singer from Pennywise.

And some Cape Town legends

That one looks good too.

Before you started posted them, I only knew one South African punk band, though they're pretty damn hardcore and metallic. (these guys started in 1994) My favourite song from them.

From the good old days when tickets weren't just an email

Nice, glad you shared. We never got nice looking tickets like that over here.

Some really great shows in there. I saw The Vandals & Assorted Jellybeans in Glasgow on vacation once, but paid at the door so I never got a cool ticket :(... I have a movie-sized poster for that "Fat-Stage" show that you went to at the Astoria with Strung Out, Lagwagon, No Use for a Name, and according to the poster the Swingin' Utters played also. Just took it off the wall, at the club. I'll post a pic one of these days.

Dinosaur Jr, Rollins Band, Beastie Boys.. some nice non-punk shows in there too. I saw Sugar Ray at a festival put on by the big alternative musci radio station in Toronto. The crowd got right into it, they were pretty good. I preferred Glueleg (one of the opening bands)

So awesome that you know Groinchurn, used to party with them so much back in the day. They really tore up a stage

You need to digitise that VHS and let the rest of us watch it, it sounds super cool. I remember getting chased away from an under a bridge show in Taiwan with some dudes called The Deported. They were always super keen on playing non-venue shows. It helped their 3 song set always fill the time between setting up and getting chased away

That Fat Stage show I was literally hanging out with the bands upstairs at the Astoria, I distinctly remember telling Strung Out that if they sold Strung Out underwear I would buy it. And a few years later they released Strung Out socks, and I bought them

Three great Japanese Ska/Punk bands from the "Skankin' in the Pit" comp on Hopeless records. I was so excited for this one. It had new unreleased songs from Falling Sickness, Assorted Jellybeans, Against All Authority, Blue Meanies, Slapstick, and all those Japanese bands. I still prefer the Skankin' In The Pit versions of the Falling Sickness and Assorted Jellybeans songs to their album versions (which are slowed down)

The vocals aren't very good on this track (but that intro!) The last two minutes are really good too, great horns. They misspelled ska in their name, ha.

So good. On the Japanese band note these are my favourites

Shakkalabits

And Kemuri

And of course the great Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra

I discovered Groinchurn in 2001, they put out a split album with Sutek Conspiracy who I was a huge fan of.

I just looked at the date and location on the video and youtube searched it, someone already uploaded it, but not in widescreen... There's 10 video's there, I'm pretty sure the whole set is in that playlist.

Propagandhi - June 11th 1994, 13th & Broadway (San Diego, California)

I got a good laugh out of that Strung Out story :D

Kemuri have their moments, I like that song. Potshot have some good tunes as well.

And of course the great Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra

Hadn't heard these guys before, really good stuff. I'll have to check them out. There's lots of Japanese bands I like, most don't apply to this thread.

I had a really good Japanese ska comp (Nihon Ska Dansu) that was more this style, but I lost it when my last computer crashed and haven't been able to find it since...

I found a few of the songs

(he's saying Nutty sounds, not Nazi sounds btw, ha)

Polysics are good, sometimes.

Hi-Standard

Idol Punch (love these guys)

I'll definitly go through that lot. Love me some Japanese punk. only one I recognise out if that is Polysics and totally, they're a hit or miss band, 1 song awesome, 3 songs shit. Awesome post

The Blue Beat Players - Cool Ska (1997) (Japan)

Thumper (1997) (Boston)

The Javatones (1997) (Boston)

YouTube just recommended this one to me. Good Stuff.

Hey dude do you got a copy of 10 songs telegraph/skolars ?

If you do can you break it up and put it on youtube so we can play some jams in here and not have to post the whole album ?

I dont have a copy right now and I suck at technology

Yeah I can do that, I probably won't get around to it today though... Maybe late tonight

I have their entire discography, even the songs from the split 7"

Yea dude that would be great. I love those dudes but no longer have anything accept quit your band. They did a few reunion shows some years back and were giving out copies of it to everyone.

The reunion show with hellmouth at smalls is the ranking best show I have ever been to.

I feel bad for whoever filmed this shit man. I was drunk as hell and they were right behind me . I was probably so annoying . It happens. Almost everyone else there was too I dont know what it was about the atmosphere of that show but everyone went hard.

I was recently thinking about how Ska got played on mainstream radio in the 90s. What songs am I missing?
