Pullups - chin over the bar or bar to chest?

if you can do them with maximal ROM day in day out, you're doing too few or you've got tendons and ligaments of the gods. full range pull ups is extremely damaging, for me atleast, on the biceps and elbows.

I do both touch and just chin over. The touch is a nice challenge and is good for my shoulders but I'm not going to limit my workout with it.

Chin over bar is sufficient. What are your goals? If your doing a hiit circut, do em fast. If you want strength and gain do em slow. Hell do em both.

For me, clearing my chin over the bar is sufficient so that my clavicle/collar bone is near the bar.

Fully retracted and depressed scapulas with elbows flexed to terminal ROM.

Any exercises to help with pullups besides losing weight? I've been stuck on 10-11 pullups for a month or so now.

So guys, how are you doing pullups? Chin over the bar or chest to bar? I can't reach with my chest to bar when i do pullups, but i can if i'm doing chinups. When i do pullups i feel like chin over the bar is the end way, i can't imagine how can you pull yourself higher? And everywhere i read about pullups it says that the correct way doing them is chest to bar.

You can pull yourself higher if you have a close grip. Can be as narrow as basically both hands next to each other (palms facing away).

This way you can reach it with your chest. That last little bit after your chin has cleared especially hits your forearms from my expirience though.

I base my opinion of pull up ROM off the same line of thinking I have for OHP. I can't hold a broom stick and touch my clavicle with good posture in my shoulders. My technique breaks down after I pass a certain point as I approach my clavicle.

IMO, going passed that point for me is no longer doing a pull-up. A more accurate description would be I am changing my posture under load. I believe a better option would be to practice proper technique and naturally let my ROM increase with repetition over time... and I don't discount the possibility my ROM may start at a point that is not the clavicle.

...but I like what ShadowNINku said too

Oh man. That is horrible. I dont even hate Mike Chang as much as some people, but what a cheap marketing ploy + pisspoor execution.

Ik,r? Was that his dad handing him the bowling trophy off of the mantle?

Mike's male cheerleader in the background was the best part. Dude got so excited watching Mike halfass those pullups, he almost lost his shit.

I think getting a full range of motion would be more important than worrying about how far past the bar you go.

i do chins but is getting your chin/pullup strength the best way to do muscleups...i mean i can do about 20 chest to bar chins but a muscleup just aint happening

work on clapping pullups, when you can do 20 of those you can definitely do a muscleup on a bar.

the trick too is figuring out the proper technique
