But in addition to being kinda funny, I also find it fascinating.

I've long suspected that free will is a lie. That we are nothing but meat computers and when we get a specific input we produce a specific output.

But of course this is hard to test because every meat computer is made up of different meat, and cooked in different environments, so they will make different choices.

But in this video you have twins that are made up of the same DNA and raised in the same environment. And they experienced a traumatic event involving a gunman attacking their mother. That is the input.

And when they describe the event, that is the output. And you can see that they are "choosing" the same exact words at the same exact times.

Which to me seems like strong evidence that if you have people with the same DNA, raised in the same environment, and you give them a choice, they will always choose the same option. Hence, no free will.

If free will is a lie does that disprove heaven?

If it doesn't then that means everyone should get into heaven.

the idea is that in any given circumstance, although there are many choices, everything that makes you who you are effectively means "you" will always make the same choice. Hence, no real free will. Something like that.

It's already been proven with the subconscious brain being the first to respond.........in a brain scan to inputs and outputs, don't need twins to prove it..... It's processed and responded to by your subconscious...... Which is probably controlled by the microbiome........ You're a giant walking meat tube which thinks it's smart....... But it's the little things pulling the strings........

If it's true that we don't have free will, and we dwell on it as a society, it would harm accountability, honestly, etc.
Damnit, you're right.

I guess those of us who discover that free will is a lie should probably not try to convince others.

So I recommend everyone stop reading this thread immediately.

I recommend the work of Robert Sapolsky and Dan Dennett (RIP). They discuss and debate this sort of thing quite a bit.

...or they have spent so much time around each other and have discussed the traumatic event so many times, they have settled on a well established way of describing it?

After watching the video, honestly it seems rehearsed.

I don t think that proves anything

Yeah I've seen this clip and they aren't isolated from each other, they're inseparable now.

They're very clearly two women who are identical twins and maybe a wee bit on the spectrum just talking together in harmony.

It's not proof of determinism it's just proof these two are currently very close and have leaned in hard on making their twinship their identity. They're the type of twins who dress the same on purpose.

Fun video but the headline is a truth claim and a truth claim presupposes a standard. But if everything is just matter in motion, what grounds the standard? Seems that determinism can't really account for metaphysics and transcendentals. It's incoherent imo and never really heard a good argument for it.

Yep, they are used to their "twinship" as you put it, getting them attention so they are playing it up.

They are well practiced at the bit, but put them in a separate room and interview them again and I bet you get different answers.

Everything is influenced by something, I don't know if it's free will or not. But we're all connected.

We we're just one singularity before the big bang.

Those twins are faking it

There's a really old video of them doing the same thing but it's much more clear in that video, can't bother to find it though

are people this retarded , honestly?
this isnt that impressive, they are just mimicking by listening and speaking slightly behind. after about what id guess is 65years, it just beecame their natural way of talking. some stuff is obvious for them because theres really no other choice of words, which you can tel because they are more in sync, and the other stuff you can tell one is always behind picking up on the the slow slurred speach of the other generally at the beginnning of a thought/sentence., which again wouldnt be that hard after 65 years of repetition.

they got better at it with more practice
