Not exactly, at least how I remember it. Glover was promised the shot after he beat Bader. Then Jones/Gus happened. Then there was some talk of bumping Glover in favor of an immediate rematch. Then it seemed like the UFC let Jones decide which guy would go first.

Wait, a lot of these were given, but the fighter got injured and pulled out. That's not the same as not giving them a title shot. They got the shot, then relinquished it.

he had beaten GG and vera and I seem to remember them saying he was getting next shot, but they welched and then JDS derailed him.

my friends and I used to laugh about that as Karo's career plummeted. Like "so... next fight is for the title..."
