Social Pro Golfer Greg Norman tries to defend his Saudi business dealings by pointing at racism in the US

Celebs and business leaders can boycott, they don't need the US government to hold their hand and tell them waht to do. A celebrity and sports boycott will hurt Bin Salman, Saudi image and attempts to diversify their economy. If enough celebs start doing the right thing others will follow.
It won’t happen. As I said gulf money flows too much into the west and either outright influences or indirectly does so. It’s going to be another case of just brad Pitt saying free Tibet. Money brings influence and that will shut most everyone up.
I haven’t looked in a while but think the Saudis own significant parts of Coke like 10% and maybe universal. The UAE owns like 10% of New York real estate trust which owns the Empire State Building. Try saying no when they appoint 2 members to your board.

Just like it did with Israel?

Don’t worry about current slavery, America had racist slavery years ago!
Workers are still treated as slaves and beaten in SA but hey they changed. Greg Norman has been there and seen the change

Saudi Arabia is proof positive of the corrupting power of extreme wealth.

I don't think anyone is buying Norman's excuse or China pulling the race card.

Norman will get a pass because the Western establishment generally supports Saudi Arabia and Bin Salman.
It's obviously not for your benefit, or any other regular person. It's a wink and a nod to signal to the corporations/bankers/investors that you know the lingo and are safe place to invest their money, similar to a company's ESG score. It's just a matter of showing you're in the corporate "in crowd". Regular people don't have to "buy it". It'll get the corporate media off his back, and the money from the middle east and China will keep rolling in.

Lebron James does the same thing. It's worth a lot more money to him being subservient to China's regime and trashing his own country, so just deflect by calling the US racist whenever some horrific abuse by the CCP is brought up. The guy has an IQ of like 30, but he at least knows where his money is coming from.

Just like it did with Israel?

With Israel, people are scared of the Israel lobby and its very powerfull friends, their ability to smear and blackball and being called anti Semitic, or just plain old don't want to lose Israeli money. WIth Saudi, no one is scared of being called anti Saudi, so it just comes down to not wanting to lose Saudi money.

- Sportswashing by Saudi Arabia continues.

- Famous Aussie pro Golfer Greg Norman is the CEO of a new internatinal Golf League, to rival the PGA, that is backed by the Saudi Soverign Wealth Fund.

- When Norman was quizzed about Saudi Arabia , a major human rights violator, utilizing sportswashing to clean up its image, Norman hit back about racism in America.

Greg Norman equates Saudi and U.S. cultures: 'Just look at America with racism ... it’s just ugly'

As the organization’s frontman, Norman recently doubled down when discussing whether or not he sees any issues in partnering with a Saudi regime that has been widely scrutinized for human rights violations.

In an article published in the Financial Times, the former World No. 1 insisted he’s not being used by the group to clean up its image.

“No, I have not been used for sportswashing because I’ve been to Saudi Arabia, and I’ve seen the changes that have taken place,” Norman told the Financial Times.

Norman also equated racial issues in the United States with social issues in Saudi Arabia.

“Every country has done horrendous things in the past … just look at America with racism, for example, it’s just so embedded here, it’s just ugly,” he said.

Ofcourse we have racial issues, but to compare Saudi to the US is beyond absurd. Saudi Arabia is famous for its racism, far far worse than anything you find in any Western country.

This is not an example of a woke sports celeb, this is a very rich sports celebrity trying to find an excuse to defend his business venture with the Saudis. He is not alone; David Beckham is being paid a lot of money to be Qatar's WC 2022 brand amabassador. Both Saudi and Qatar still have defacto slavery, in the form of indentured servitude.

And lets not forget the war crimes committed by the Saudis and Emiratis in Yemen.

lol this racism where we have a black president for 8 years and a black-ish female vice president.... and where asians are doing better in like every category than whites are here....

In Saudi and the other GCC Gulf countries, it's not equal pay for equal work. People from Asian and African countries are paid less for a given job than people from White and Arab countries.

This. Even if he did go and see, I’m sure it wasn’t an honest portrayal. He probably was shown selected areas and probably didn’t the the Muslims only sign in Mecca. Anyhow yeah, it’s a lie and everyone can say that

He was always long off the tee, IIRC
